Improvements to packaging machines.
The present invention relates to a machine for packaging ice cream or other material of a friable or brittle nature. The invention relates to machines of the type (hereinafter referred to as the "described type") in which blocks are cut in the form of slices from a bar of material and are fed to a conveyor which distributes these blocks to a device. packing. The invention relates more particularly to the cutting of blocks in the bar and their transport to the conveyor.
According to the invention, a packaging machine of the type described comprises a movable main support for the bar.

material, means for lowering said support from an initial support position by an amount corresponding to the thickness of the wafer to be cut in the bar, a cutting device adapted to cut a wafer in the base of the bar while it is supported by the support and for supporting the remainder of the bar during the subsequent transport of the cut wafer, means for moving said support, while the bar is thus held, for transporting the separated wafer to a place of transport, means of transporting the separate section of this support to a pocket of a pocket carrier,
and means for returning said support to its initial position - so as to allow the cutting device to be recalled.
This cutting device suitably comprises a pair of opposed knives and arranged to be able to take a reciprocating movement in a common plane, in such a way that they cut the bar simultaneously in two opposite directions so as to cut the bar in approaching closely to each other.
The following description, with reference to the appended drawing by way of non-limiting example ,. will make it clear how the present invention can be implemented.
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the cutting and dispensing assembly of an ice cream block packaging machine.
The figure represents in front elevation the apparatus = lage represented in figure 1.
Figures 3 to 6 are diagrams illustrating the movements of certain parts of the apparatus.
Two ice cream bars 11 are supported by an inclined support 12 which has support rods 13 directed upward. The support base 12 is constituted by a movable platform 14 articulated on a shaft 16 mounted in the frame.

main 17 of the machine. The platform 14 is provided with an arm the connected by an articulated rod 19 to a control arm 21 which is mounted to pivot on a support shaft 22 mounted in the frame 17. The arm 31 is provided with a roller 23 arranged for s 'press against the contour of a rotating cam 24 fixed on a camshaft 26 mounted so as to be able to rotate in the frame 17.
Two shafts 27, fixed in the frame 17, are arranged on each side of the support 12, their axes being transverse to the axes of the rods 11. Two opposed slides 28 are slidably mounted on the shafts 27, slides on which are fixed two knives. 31.
The sliders 22 can move alternately in opposite directions, to force the knives 31 to approach each other closely to cut two blocks 30 in the two bars 11, by means of two connecting rods 35 and 34 pivoting watches , respectively, at the opposite ends of two levers with two arms 56 pivotally mounted on a shaft 37 supported by the frame 17. These levers 56 are connected by connecting rods 8 to the arms 39 pivotally mounted on the shaft 32 and connected by connecting rods 41 to other arms 41 pivotally mounted on a shaft 43 port by the frame 17.
The arms 42 are provided with rollers 44 arranged to rest against the contours of rotating cams 46 fixed on the camshaft 26.
Platform 14; is forked to allow the passage of a forked transport member 63 which is slidably mounted in a console 64 which rotates around a shaft 65, the transport member 63 carrying a rack 67 disposed to cooperate with a pinion 68 mounted to pivot on tree 66.
The pinion 68 meshes with a toothed wheel sector 39 through an arm 71 which is mounted to pivot on the shaft 23 and which carries a roller 72 arranged to rest against the contour of a
