PORTE COUPE-FEU
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
paumelles.
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

FIRE DOOR
The present invention relates to a fire door, comprising a first and a second leaf made of treated steel, interconnected by connection of a first and a second edge, situated along a peripheral edge of the first respectively of the second leaf in such a way as to delimit an enclosure in which is disposed, in the form of dry plates, a material resistant to fire and with low thermal conductivity, said first and second leaf each being folded over their lateral edges.
Such a fire door is known from patent application GB-2118231 A. In the known door, the frame is formed by plates of fire-resistant material, in particular gypsum plates. The plates are juxtaposed so as to form a reinforced frame. The first and second leaves are obtained from sheets of treated steel, which are folded over their lateral edges, in order to be able to connect the first leaf to the second. The first and second leaves thus envelop the frame formed by the gypsum boards.
A disadvantage of the known door is that the door frame is formed by gypsum boards. The first and second leaf used only to wrap the frame but have no structural function. This has the consequence that the door does not have good anti-burglary properties since the envelope which forms the first and second leaf can easily be forced.
The object of the invention is to produce a fire door which also has good anti-intrusion characteristics without
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
impair the fire resistance characteristics or its quality of completion.
To this end, a fire door according to the invention is characterized in that said first respectively second leaf are also folded over at least one of their transverse edges so as to form a first respectively a second frame which each hold at least one of said plates, said first and second frame forming together the frame of the door. The fact that the first and second leaves each form a frame has the consequence that it is the first and second leaves together which form the frame. This gives a chassis in treated steel and not in gypsum, which has much better anti-break-in properties.
The fact that the connection is made at the edges does not cause too large a thermal bridge between the first and the second leaf contrary to the practice, according to which any thermal bridge between first and second steel leaf is avoided, the next door the invention allows the existence of a weak thermal bridge.
Preferably the first edge is formed by one end of the peripheral edge of the first frame and the second edge by a fold forming an angle in the peripheral edge of the second frame. Thus the connection between first and second leaf is made at the height of a fold forming an angle which limits thermal conduction.
A first embodiment of a door according to the invention is characterized in that on a side intended to form the lower part of the door, the first and second leaves are folded so as to form a flange substantially perpendicular to the facing of the leaf , the edge of the first and second leaf being connected by a gutter in which an intumescent seal is housed.
When applied in the gutter, the intumescent seal due to its properties will prevent, in case of fire,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
that a flame can pass under the door and thus reach a neighboring room.
A second embodiment of a door according to the invention is characterized in that the first and the second leaf are connected by a limited number of weld points, a seal made of fire-resistant material being applied along the connection between the first and second leaf. The application of solder points in a limited number reduces the number of thermal bridges and thus ensures the fire protection function of the door. The seal in fire-resistant material along the connection between first and second leaf will prevent, in the event of fire, that a flame can be engulfed between door and jamb.
Preferably said fire resistant material is a material based on calcium silicate reinforced with fibers. The fiber-reinforced calcium silicate material has the same advantages as the gypsum material and is more rigid.
Preferably, the fire-resistant material is glued against the inner face of the leaf. The bonding allows to quickly and securely fix said material to the internal face of the leaf.
A third embodiment of a door according to the invention also comprises the manufacture of the jamb. This embodiment is characterized in that said frame is formed by a sheet of treated steel, folded so as to form another frame of the fire-resistant material being applied in the form of a plate on said other frame. The doorframe is thus manufactured using the same technology as the door and therefore has the same fire and burglar resistant properties.
The invention also relates to a method for mounting in a wall, a door and a doorframe. This process is characterized in that along another edge forming the boundary between the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
jamb and wall, a fire seal is applied. In the event of a fire, the fire seal will prevent a flame from entering between the doorframe and the wall, thereby reaching an adjoining room.
Preferably in the space between the door and the jamb, an intumescent seal is applied along the strip. This space is thus closed and a flame cannot be engulfed in it.
Preferably the hinges are cam-shaped and are welded on one side to the door frame and the door. This reduces the heat flow between the door and the jamb.
The invention will now be described in more detail using an embodiment shown in the drawings. In these drawings:

Figure 6 shows another embodiment of a jamb.
In the drawings, the same reference has been assigned to the same element or to an analogous element.
Figure 1 illustrates an overview of a door 1 and a frame 2 according to the invention. The door has both a fire and an anti-burglary function. To this end, the door and the frame are made of treated steel sheets, preferably cold-rolled steel sheets and electro-galvanized before forming. The door is fixed to the frame using two or three hinges 3, which are designed so that it is not possible to drive the axis. The central core 27 of the hinge 3 in which the axis is housed is open at these two ends so as to better release the heat in the event of a fire. If necessary, this opening can be covered with a capsule to give a more aesthetic appearance to the hinge.
The burglar-proof function of the door is provided by the steel sheets on the one hand and on the other by a multi-bolt lock 4.
The sectional view illustrated in Figure 2 illustrates the way in which the door and the frame according to the invention are manufactured and assembled. The door has a first 5 and a second 9 leaf each formed by a sheet of treated steel folded over at least three sides so as to form a frame, as illustrated in more detail in Figure 4. The edges of the leaf are folded in U-shaped so that it can hold a plate (6; 8; 10 and 11)
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
made of a fire resistant material with low thermal conductivity.
The first leaf 5 is at least as thick as the second 9 since the first leaf partially covers the jamb 2 while the second leaf fits into the jamb. This has the consequence that in the first leaf a single plate 6 of fire-resistant material is sufficient while in the second leaf there are three plates 8, 10 and 11 arranged in a U. It would naturally be possible to put a thicker plate in the second leaf or several plates one against the other, but this would make the door noticeably heavier without improving its fire and burglar resistant properties.
The fire-resistant material applied in the form of a plate is for example made of material based on gypsum such as Gyproc plates (registered trademark) or based on calcium silicate reinforced with fibers such as Supalux plates (registered trademark marketed by Cape Boards Ltd). The material based on gypsum or silicate offers the advantage of being easy to machine, rigid and fire-resistant. These properties are necessary for the fire protection function of the door. In addition, the gypsum-based plate is widely used commercially and is inexpensive.
The gypsum or silicate material also has noise absorbing properties. Regarding its fire-resistant function, the gypsum or silicate material absorbs the heat taken up by the leaf steel and retains it due to its low thermal conductivity. The heat thus retained will dissipate only slowly and will not cause strong tensions in the steel of the leaves.
The advantage of using fire-resistant material in the form of a plate in the dry state, compared to concrete poured in the liquid state, as is occasionally done according to the state of the art, is that
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
the plate can be mounted when assembling the door in the workshop and not on site when placing the door. It has in fact been observed that the concrete poured into the enclosure enveloped by the two leaves takes approximately two weeks to fully cure. The presence of moisture during this period leads to mold problems which are all the more serious if the concrete is also poured into the jamb. In addition, concrete makes the door noticeably heavier than that where plates are used according to the invention.
After folding the steel sheet to form the leaves, the plate or plates are introduced into the frame thus formed by simple insertion in the dry state. This offers easy, quick and precise assembly because the size of the plate can be perfectly adapted to that of the leaves while having a substantial uniformity of material over the entire surface of the plate. Cutting the plate to provide openings for locks and other hardware inside the door poses no problem because the material used allows it easily. In order to ensure that the plate does not move in the leaf, it is preferably glued between the inner face of the leaf, for example using a non-combustible glue (Pyrocol, registered trademark).
The space enveloped by the plates 6,8, 10 and 11 is preferably filled with rock wool 7 which not only offers thermal and acoustic insulation but is also very fire resistant.
To allow the introduction of the plates 6,8, 10 and 11 the sheet is folded on three sides so as to form a frame, for example on the lateral sides and on the upper side. As illustrated in FIG. 3, the side intended to form the lower part of the door is folded back so as to form a flange 21, 24 substantially perpendicular to the facing of the leaf. The plate is then slid into the frame from this lower part.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
After folding the sheets to form the first 5 and the second 9 leaf, the latter are connected together to form the door. To this end, the first and second leaves are, for example, welded to each other by application of a limited number of welding points along a first edge situated along the edge of the first leaf and of a second edge forming a fold in the edge of the second leaf. The application of a limited number of weld points limits the number of thermal bridges between the first and second leaves, thereby limiting the thermal conduction between the first and second leaves, which is favorable for a door having a fire stop function.
The fact that the edges of the leaves are folded in a U shape therefore has the consequence that each leaf forms a frame which retains the plates of fire-resistant material. This frame formed by a steel sheet also has the consequence of providing a door which has a very good burglar-proof function.
Indeed because of their geometrical form in frame each leaf offers a good resistance to any temptation to break in where one would try to force the plate.
The treated steel also contributes to this burglar-resistant function. In the door according to the invention it is the leaves themselves, when they are connected, which form the frame. The plates have no chassis function, as wood has in the doors according to the state of the art. In the door according to the invention there is therefore no more wood which can be forced.
The fact that two treated steel leaves are connected together by welding points or if necessary by screws, does not affect the fire protection function of the door. Tests carried out according to the prescriptions of standard NBN 713.020 on a door according to the invention have proved that the door meets the fire-fighting characteristics.
The leaf in turn meets the NFP 23-307 standards and the NF P 23-301 standard. The door according to the invention has proven

have a stability and flameproofness greater than 66 minutes. The thermal insulation of the door and its doorframe is at least 31 minutes.
Along said first and second edges which form the connection between the first and second leaves, a seal 20 made of fire-resistant material is preferably applied. This joint is applied in the form of a putty.
The frame-like structure that the first and second leaves have has the advantage that the only thermal bridges between the first and second leaves are formed on the one hand by the welding points 25 which connect the leaves and by the gutter 22 connecting which connects the lower sides of the leaves. Indeed the edges 28 and 29 of the second leaf do not penetrate into the first leaf since they come to bear against the plate 6. This also appreciably limits the thermal conduction.
At the lower part of the door, the gutter 22 connects the edges 21 and 24 of the leaves. In this gutter is applied an intumescent seal 23, for example the seal sold under the (registered) Palusol P brand.
This seal swells in the event of a fire, reducing the distance between the bottom of the door and the floor to prevent a flame, in the event of a fire, from passing under the door. Another intumescent seal 12 is also applied against the frame 2 along the rim 13. This other intumescent seal prevents a flame from being able to rush between the door and the frame and thus pass from one room to another. In addition, the application of the seal on the doorframe causes less wear than its application on the door.
As illustrated in Figure 5 the hinges - 3 are cam-shaped and are provided with a central perforation in which is housed the pivot axis. The hinges attached using welds 16 applied on all their faces and not only on a point, which makes it possible to suppress the diffusion of heat up to the

hinges. The hinges are mounted in such a way that the cam is oriented in the direction of the angle between the door and the doorframe.
The door frame is made by applying a technique similar to that used for the door. The jamb 2 comprises a sheet of treated steel folded so as to form another frame 14 intended to be placed in an opening where the door is to be placed. In this other frame thus formed, fire-resistant material is then introduced in the form of a plate 15. As in the manufacture of the door, the plates are plates based on gypsum or based on calcium silicate reinforced with fibers. . The plates are glued against the internal face of the sheets forming the other frame, in a similar manner to that mounted in the door.
The use of steel sheets for the jamb also reinforces the burglar-resistant function of the door according to the invention for the same reasons as those explained for the leaves.
When mounting the frame in the wall, the frame is preferably aimed using screws 18 which pass through the sheet metal and the plates. A seal 17 made of fire-resistant material is preferably applied along another edge forming the limit between the jamb and the wall 19. This seal 17 prevents flames from entering between the jamb and the wall and reaching thus a neighboring room.
Figure 6 illustrates another embodiment of the jamb according to the invention. In this embodiment, the doorframe is made up of two separate parts 30 and 31. The first part 30 has an essentially L-shaped configuration and is fixed, for example, with a screw 34 to the wall 19. The first part is placed on one side of the door while the second part 31 is placed on the other side of the door. The first and second pieces are for example
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
made of folded sheets of cold-rolled steel 3 mm thick. The second part 31 has a substantially T-shaped configuration whose vertical leg 37 is disposed against the opening in the wall 19 and the horizontal leg 32 extends along the wall.
An intumescent seal 36 connects the first 30 and the second 31 part. This intumescent seal 36 is located at the height of the door 1 even to thereby avoid a passage of heat from one side of the door to the other. A screw 33 fixes the second part 31 to the wall 19. A material 35 with low thermal conductivity and which is resistant to fire, such as for example Gyproc or Supalux (both registered trademarks), is placed between the two parts forming the jamb. Multiplex plates can also be used as material 35.
The separation by the seal 36 between the first 30 and the second part prevents, in the event of a fire, a thermal bridge being established by the sheet metal forming the jamb. The door using such a jamb thus meets the characteristics of standard NFP 23-301. Due to its T-shaped configuration, the second part 31 offers good resistance in the event of an attempted break-in. The small flanges 38 on the horizontal leg and the vertical leg opposing indeed when trying to force this piece.
In the description which has just been given, the jamb and the door are manufactured using the same technique. However, the door frame must not be manufactured using the technique described to hang the door on it.
The door has, preferably at the edges 21 and 22, small openings which allow the evacuation of moisture which could be present in the plates.
