The parent patent relates to a method for the production of castings using models that change into the gaseous state under the action of the poured melt, the model being surrounded by granular molding material in a molding box, whereby the molding material is first or the like by blowing in compressed air . is loosened up to the point of levitation with the creation of a fluidized bed known per se and that the model is introduced into this fluidized bed, whereupon the fluidized bed collapses by throttling the compressed air supply and thus the molding material is compressed and, if necessary, re-compressed, the melt is poured in in a known manner and the molding material is loosened up again by supplying compressed air to remove the casting.
The device provided for carrying out the method according to the parent patent comprises a normal molding box which is equipped with a gas-permeable base plate and is connected to a compressed air line and, if necessary, a vacuum pump.
When carrying out the above-mentioned method using this device, it cannot be avoided that the hot combustion gases produced during casting are sucked off through the gas-permeable base plate and get into the vacuum pump. In the case of smaller models, the quantities of gas produced are relatively small so that they cannot have any harmful effects. In the case of larger models, however, filters and cooling devices may have to be provided to prevent the hot combustion gases from penetrating the vacuum pump. However, these facilities require ongoing maintenance and thus an increased economic outlay.
The object of the invention is to avoid these disadvantages and to create a device for carrying out the method described at the outset in which the penetration of exhaust gases into the vacuum pump is prevented.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that the side walls of the molding box are gas-permeable and in that conventional devices are provided which effect the suction of the hot gases through the side walls.
In an embodiment of the invention, the gas-permeable side walls are surrounded by an airtight space which is provided with an outwardly known gas extraction device.
In this way, the majority of the combustion gases produced during casting are discharged through the side walls and thus kept away from the vacuum pump.
An embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing.
The molding box - l - has a gas-permeable base plate - 2 - which is attached to a

The side walls --10-- are surrounded by a space --11-- which is sealed off from the outside and which is airtight and which is connected to the outside air via a gas extraction device - 12 - known per se. It is essential that the space - 11 - is separated from the pressure compensation chamber - S -.
The invention enables the method according to the parent patent to be carried out using simple means, without there being any risk of the operation of the vacuum pump being impaired by the hot combustion gases.
