Belagsmasse an.

Covering compound for playgrounds and sports fields
For the production of a ceiling for playgrounds and sports fields, in particular tennis courts, as well as for garden paths and artificial ice rinks, covering compounds have already been proposed that can be used as binders for a pulverized mineral material such as brick dust or rock flour, burnt lime or magnesite, water

contain.
However, these known covering compounds were not able to achieve all the properties desired for a sports field, such as strength, elasticity, water permeability and all-weather
EMI1.2
it has also already been proposed to incorporate a pigment into such known covering compounds in order to obtain a permanently colored cover. Due to the binders used in the previous covering compounds, however, the powdery pigment was only inadequately fixed and gave. therefore for discoloration of clothing, tennis balls and the like. like occasion.
For this reason, the permanent coloring of playgrounds and sports fields, which is desirable per se, has not yet been able to be generally introduced.
One aim of the present invention is to create a covering material for producing a ceiling for sports and playgrounds, these expressions also including similar systems, such as garden paths and artificial ice rinks, which is at the same time firm, elastic, permeable to water and extremely weather-resistant.
Another object of the invention is to provide a covering material colored by a pigment for the production of a permanently colored and non-staining ceiling for playgrounds and sports fields.
These goals are now achieved according to the invention by using a covering compound which, as a binder for a comminuted mineral material, which may optionally contain a pigment, a small amount of an aqueous vinyl resin dispersion, the at least one polymerization product of vinyl acetate and, if the named polymerization product is not is internally plasticized, also contains at least one plasticizer, is added.
As a polymerization product of vinyl acetate! Polyvinyl acetate and also copolymers of vinyl acetate and other copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compounds come into consideration. Examples of such copolymerizable compounds are vinyl chloride, vinyl ethers such as vinyl isobutyl ether, vinyl esters such as vinyl benzoate, esters of acrylic acid and acrylic acid such as methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, isopropyl acrylate, butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylonitrile, acrylic acid amide, styrene, camphene .
Examples of plasticizers that may be mentioned are di-butyl phthalate and tricresyl phosphate.
The commercially available aqueous dispersions with a dry content of 25 to 55% are well suited for the purpose according to the invention.
In addition to the dispersed vinyl resin, the plasticizer and an emulsifier, such dispersions can contain small amounts of other substances customary as additives for vinyl resin dispersions, such as protective colloids, thickeners, stabilizers and the like. like. included. Anionic compounds, such as the sulfuric acid esters or sulfonation products of higher fatty acids, and also nonionic compounds, are commonly used as emulsifiers. Polyvinyl alcohol, for example, can be present as protective colloid. As a thickener, for. B. serve methyl cellulose.
The materials customary for such purposes, such as brick powder or a ground rock material such as green or red lime or sandstone, come into consideration as the comminuted mineral material. The term "comminuted mineral material" by definition includes both dust-fine material as well as sand and stone chippings. To produce a porous, water-permeable structure of the ceiling, a material of mixed grain size is preferably used which, in addition to finely ground fractions; also has coarser fractions with a grain size of up to about 2 to 3 mm or even more.
Made exclusively from powdered, natural-colored mineral material and vinyl
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Coverings made with resin-based binders, however, vary in color intensity depending on the moisture content, which is perceived as a disadvantage in certain cases.
In order to produce a permanent, uniform coloration of the ceiling, further pigments, such as iron oxide red or chrome oxide green, are therefore preferably incorporated into the covering material.
The vinyl resin dispersion creates a

or embedding of the particles after the hardened
The effect of the covering compound is that the finished ceiling retains its color during use and practically does not rub off.
It was surprising to find the cheap
The properties of the new covering compound can be achieved by adding relatively small amounts of the vinyl resin dispersion.
In this way, 3 to 5%, based on the weight of the solid constituents, of a commercial dispersion of 25 to 10% are generally sufficient
Dry content.
EMI2.2
Tennis court, for example, you first create an intimate mixture of 90 parts by weight of brick flour,
3 to 5 parts by weight of iron oxide red, then mixes the mixture with 3 to 5 parts of a commercially available 300 / own aqueous polyvinyl acetate dispersion and finally doughs with 30 to
50 parts by weight of water to a spreadable
Covering mass.
The invention also relates to a method for producing a ceiling for playgrounds and sports fields, in particular tennis courts, with the aid of the new covering compound.
According to a first embodiment of this method, the new paving compound, which contains 3 to 5 parts by weight of a pigment, such as iron oxide red or chromium oxide green, is applied in a thin layer to an existing or freshly made marl cover and rolled down. In this case, the actual surface cover consists of a tennis marl layer of z. B. 2 to 4cm thick, which in turn on a conventional substructure of slag, stones and. Like. Is rolled on; despite a layer thickness of only 2 to 3 mm, the colored top layer
EMI2.3
Permanence of the color is increased by having a share. of the pigment is fixed by the synthetic resin on the marl cover.
According to a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, however, the new covering compound can also be rolled directly onto the existing base of stone or slag material in a greater layer thickness of a few cm. In this case, the mass can be colored throughout, or the actual ceiling can be made from powdered rock material and vinyl resin binder alone, and this ceiling can be permanently colored in the manner described above, analogous to the known carpets made of marl or the like.
A ceiling produced in this way is both elastic and flexible and, when using a mineral material of mixed grain size, has good porosity or water permeability. Compared to the well-known waiter. The new coverings are characterized by their particularly good resistance to the effects of the weather, especially when there is frost. effect, so that in many cases the annual renewal of the covering is unnecessary or simplified.
The invention is illustrated by the following examples, parts being parts by weight unless otherwise noted.
Example 1: After the substructure has been rolled, a spreadable mixture of 92 parts of brick dust with a grain size of up to 2.5 mm, 3 parts of red iron oxide, 5 parts of a polyvinyl acetate emulsion of the composition given below and 40 parts of water is applied 3 cm high and rolled . If the ceiling is to be of a different color, ground stone or sand can be used instead of brick powder, adding the appropriate amount of pigment, e.g. B. Use chromium oxide green.
The vinyl resin emulsion used has the following composition: 28% polyvinyl acetate; 0.2% Turkish red oil; 1%

ser.
Example 2: A mixture of 92 parts of brick flour with a grain size of up to 2.5 mm, 5 parts of red iron oxide, 3 parts of the polyvinyl acetate dispersion used in example 1 and 40 parts of water 3 is placed on a firm, rolled floor covering made of tennis marl mm high applied and rolled. The ceiling is then sprayed with water to allow pigment to be washed into the marl pavement and then rolled again before drying.
Example 3: The procedure is the same as in Example 1, but instead of the polyvinyl acetate dispersion used there, a vinyl resin dispersion with the following composition is used: 40% of an ammonia-neutralized copolymer of 48 parts of n-butyl acrylate, 49.8 parts of vinyl acetate and 2.2 Parts acrylic acid; 0.5 / o sodium a-oxydecanesulfonic acid; 0.50 / o nonionic emulsifier; Rest water.
