Abstract

Se describen métodos para preparar semillas híbridas que resuelven el problema de preparar semilla híbrida donde la auto polinizacion de cada progenitor escontrolada. La restauracion de fertilidad en las plantas progenitoras permite el mantenimientode las líneas progenitoras. Una planta progenitora masculina,con fertilidad masculina y con esterilidad femenina homocigota recesiva y una planta progenitora femenina, con esterilidad masculina homocigota recesiva y confertilidad femenina, seintersi embran para permitir la polinizacion cruzada y se obtiene la semilla producida por el cruzamiento. El ADN génico de cada plantaprogenitora tiene integrado en sí mismo una construccion génica que comprende una secuencia promotora quecorresponde a la presencia o ausencia de un inductorquímico exogeno, opcionalmente operativamente ligado a uno o más potenciadores de la traduccion o secuencias de intrones, operativamente ligadas a un gen quecompletamente restaura la fertilidad decada planta progen itora. El gen es expresado por la aplicacion a la planta de un inductor químico externo permitiendoasí la auto polinizacion de cada progenitor. Los métodos hacen que no sea necesario la siembra de bloques separados para plantasmasculinas y plantasfe meninas, maximizando la oportunidad de polinizacion cruzada y evitando la necesidad de aplicar herbicidas para remover las plantas progenitoras masculinasluego de la fertilizacion de la planta progenitora femenina.
