If all of such holes, inlets, and outlet pipe openings are arranged so as to fit the whole, an increase in exhaust noise due to air column resonance in the muffler width direction can be effectively suppressed.
- the opening of the inlet and outlet pipes and the arrangement of the communication holes may be changed as appropriate. Even in such a case, the distance between one end of the muffler in the width direction is a quarter of the width W and the position separated from the same end is a half of the width W. If all of them are arranged so that all of them can be accommodated, an increase in exhaust noise due to air column resonance in the muffler width direction can be effectively suppressed.
- the number of partition plates and expansion chambers provided in the muffler may be changed as appropriate. Also, the number of communication pipes and communication holes can be changed.
- the expansion chamber is formed such that the length of the muffler in the front-rear direction is equal to or more than one-fourth of the width W of the muffler.

Abstract
Description
ここでまず、上記課題についての本発明の解決原理を説明する。ここでは、図1に示すような、幅Wの扁平断面形状をなすマフラー50の内部に形成された膨張室51に、その幅方向の一端(同図では図中右側の端)から幅Wの4分の1の長さ(W/4)分離れた位置と、同端から幅Wの2分の1の長さ(W/2)分離れた位置との間に、膨張室51の外部に通じる開口52、53をそれぞれ形成した場合を考える。なお、開口52は、その図中左側の端が、マフラー50の幅方向の一端からW/2分離れた位置に接するように配置され、開口53は、その図中右側の端が、マフラー50の幅方向の一端からW/4分離れた位置に接するように配置されている。
上記課題を解決するため、本発明に従う車両の消音装置は、高さに対して幅が大となる扁平断面形状のマフラーと、そのマフラーの内部に排気を導入する入口パイプと、マフラーの内部から排気を導出する出口パイプと、マフラーの内部を区画して複数の膨張室を形成する仕切り板と、その仕切り板を貫通する連通孔と、を備える車両の消音装置において、マフラーの幅方向の一端からその幅の4分の1の長さ分離れた位置と同一端からその幅の2分の1の長さ分離れた位置との間に全体が収まるように、マフラーの内部に形成される入口パイプの開口、出口パイプの開口及び連通孔のすべてを配置している。
以下、本発明の車両の消音装置を具体化した第1の実施の形態を、図2~図4を参照して詳細に説明する。
次に、本発明の車両の消音装置を具体化した第2の実施の形態を、図5及び図6を参照して詳細に説明する。

Claims (3)
- 高さに対して幅が大となる扁平断面形状のマフラーと、そのマフラーの内部に排気を導入する入口パイプと、前記マフラーの内部から排気を導出する出口パイプと、前記マフラーの内部を区画して複数の膨張室を形成する仕切り板と、その仕切り板を貫通する連通孔と、を備える車両の消音装置において、
前記マフラーの幅方向の一端から前記幅の4分の1の長さ分離れた位置と同一端から前記幅の2分の1の長さ分離れた位置との間に全体が収まるように、前記マフラーの内部に形成される前記入口パイプの開口、前記出口パイプの開口及び前記連通孔のすべてを配置した
ことを特徴とする車両の消音装置。 - 前記入口パイプの開口、前記出口パイプの開口及び前記連通孔の少なくともいずれか一つが、前記マフラーの幅方向の一端から前記幅の4分の1の長さ分離れた位置に接し、残りの少なくともいずれか一つが前記一端から前記幅の2分の1の長さ分離れた位置に接するように配置した
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の車両の消音装置。 - 高さに対して幅が大となる扁平断面形状のマフラーと、そのマフラーの内部に排気を導入する入口パイプと、前記マフラーの内部から排気を導出する出口パイプと、前記マフラーの内部を区画して複数の膨張室を形成する仕切り板と、その仕切り板を貫通する連通孔と、を備える車両の消音装置において、
前記マフラーの幅方向の一端から前記幅の4分の1の長さ分離れた位置と同一端から前記幅の2分の1の長さ分離れた位置との間の領域においてのみ、外部に開放されるようにすべての前記膨張室が形成されてなる
ことを特徴とする車両の消音装置。
