- the fitting surface on the inner periphery of the end of the outer member 23 is restricted to a chatter height of 3 ⁇ m or less, and the annular protrusion 28a is elastically deformed to the inner periphery of the end of the outer member 23 when the protective cover 27 is fitted.
- the airtightness of the fitting portion 27a is enhanced.
- a sensor cap 40 is further attached to the inner side of the protective cover 27.
- the sensor cap 40 is fitted and fixed to the inner end of the outer member 23 and closes the opening of the outer member 23.
- the sensor cap 40 includes a bottomed cylindrical cap body 41 formed by injection molding a synthetic resin, and a cored bar 42 integrally molded in an opening of the cap body 41.
- the core metal 42 is formed in an annular shape having an L-shaped cross section by press-forming a corrosion-resistant stainless steel plate or cold rolled steel plate (JIS standard SPCC system or the like).
- the core metal 42 is formed of a non-magnetic steel plate such as an austenitic stainless steel plate (JIS standard SUS304 or the like) so as not to adversely affect the sensing performance of the rotational speed sensor 22. Is preferred.
- the cap body 41 is formed by injection molding from a thermoplastic synthetic resin such as PA (polyamide) 66 or PA 6/12, and further added with 10-50 wt% of a fibrous reinforcing material such as GF (glass fiber). Is preferred. As a result, the sensing performance of the rotational speed sensor 22 is not adversely affected, the corrosion resistance is excellent, the strength and rigidity are increased, and the durability can be improved over a long period of time.
- the cap body 41 can be exemplified by synthetic resins that can be injection molded such as polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), PPA (polyphthalamide), PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), etc., in addition to the materials described above.
- a fibrous reinforcement not only GF but CF (carbon fiber), an aramid fiber, a boron fiber, etc. can be illustrated other than this.
- the cap body 41 includes a cylindrical fitting portion 41a that is press-fitted into the inner periphery of the inner side end portion of the outer member 23, and the inner end surface 2d of the outer member 23 from the fitting portion 41a. And a bottom 41c extending inward in the radial direction via a stepped portion 41b that is in close contact with (see FIGS. 19, 20, and 22). And the fitting surface of the inner periphery of the end part of the outer member 23 is regulated to a chatter height of 3 ⁇ m or less, and the airtightness of the fitting part 41 a of the cap body 41 is enhanced. Further, the stepped portion 41b that is in close contact with the end surface 2d of the outer member 23 can improve the positioning accuracy of the sensor cap 40, simplify the air gap adjustment, and improve the detection accuracy.
- a mounting portion 43 that protrudes in the axial direction is integrally projected on the radially outer portion of the bottom portion 41 c, and a fixing nut 44 is embedded in the mounting portion 43 by insert molding.
- the rotation speed sensor 22 is fixed to the fitting insertion hole 43 a of the mounting portion 43 by fastening the fixing bolt to the female screw 44 a of the fixing nut 44 via a mounting flange (not shown).
- An annular groove 44b is formed on the outer periphery of the fixed nut 44 to prevent the fixed nut 44 from moving in the axial direction.
- the fixing nut 44 is formed of a steel material having an antirust property such as austenitic stainless steel (JIS standard SUS304 system) or ferritic stainless steel (JIS standard SUS430 system).

- the protective cover 34 includes a cylindrical fitting portion 34a provided with an elastic member 28 made of synthetic rubber that is press-fitted into the inner periphery of the inner side end of the outer member 23, and a reduced diameter portion from the fitting portion 34a.
- a shielding portion 34c that faces the magnetic encoder 14 via a slight axial clearance via 34b, and has a thickness H2 that is greater than the thickness H1 of the other portion from the fitting portion 34a to the shielding portion 34c. Is formed thinly. Specifically, the thickness H1 of the shielding portion 34c is at least 0.2 to 1.0 mm, while the thickness H1 of the other portion is 1.0 to 1.5 mm.
- the air gap can be set as small as possible, and the detection accuracy can be increased. If the thickness H2 is less than 0.2 mm, it becomes difficult to accurately shape the shape of the shielding portion 34c. If the thickness H2 exceeds 1.0 mm, the air gap becomes large and desired magnetic characteristics can be obtained. This is not preferable because the detection accuracy is lowered.
- the rotational speed sensor 22 is disposed so as to be in a horizontal position with respect to the road surface in a vehicle-mounted state. As a result, even when the outer member 23 and the inner member 46 are relatively inclined due to the lateral load from the wheels, fluctuations in the air gap between the rotational speed sensor 22 and the magnetic encoder 14 can be suppressed and stabilized. Detection accuracy can be obtained.
- the wheel bearing device with a rotational speed detection device is a wheel bearing device with a rotational speed detection device of an inner ring rotation type of any structure such as a drive wheel, a driven wheel, or a rolling element such as a ball or a tapered roller. Can be applied.
