- the combustion suppression region can be provided in the form of a plurality of stripes extending in the longitudinal direction of the tobacco rod and spaced apart from each other in the circumferential direction of the tobacco rod.
- LM pectin is used as a combustion inhibitor.
- Pectin is generally composed of a polysaccharide (pectinic acid) composed of ⁇ -D-galacturonic acid and pectinic acid in which a part of pectic acid is methyl esterified.
- DE Degree of Esterification
- Pectin having a DE of 50% or more is HM (high methoxyl) pectin, and pectin having a DE value of less than 50% is LM. It is called (low methoxyl) pectin.
- Pectin exists as an insoluble component in water by binding to cellulose and the like in plant tissues. Most of the pectin extracted with an acidic solution is HM pectin, and when producing LM pectin, the C-6 position of galacturonic acid is demethylated using acid, alkali, enzyme or ammonia. LM pectin having various DE corresponding to the degree of demethylation is commercially available.
- HM and LM pectin have gelation ability, the gelation mechanism of both is different.
- HM pectin forms a heat irreversible gel at about 55% or more sugar, pH 3.5 or less
- LM pectin is a polyvalent such as calcium and magnesium regardless of the amount of sugar, pH and solid content.
- the gelation mechanism of LM pectin is based on ionic bonds in which polyvalent metal ions (for example, Ca 2+ ) form a bridge between carboxyl groups of pectin molecules, and by coordinate bonds between lone electron pairs and polyvalent metal ions. It is believed that.
- LM pectin can be applied to the base paper by a gravure printing method in the form of a relatively concentrated aqueous solution (concentration of 1 to 12% by weight). Since the aqueous solution of LM pectin is acidic, it dissolves calcium carbonate, calcium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide, which are poorly water-soluble fillers contained in the base wrapping paper, and dissociates polyvalent cations (calcium ions and magnesium ions). Can be made. The dissociated polyvalent cation causes LM pectin to gel by the gelation mechanism, and a strong LM pectin gel is generated. Thereby, a film can be formed even with a relatively small amount of LM pectin. The amount of filler in the base wrapping described above is sufficient for such LM pectin gelation.
- the cigarette wrapping paper of the present invention exhibits a PFLB (percent full-length burn) value of 0 to 25%, preferably 0 to 5%, as measured according to ASTM E-2187-04, by applying the LM pectin.
- Cigarettes cigarettes wrapped with tobacco filler with the wrapping paper
- the application amount (dry basis) of LM pectin is preferably 2 g or less per 1 m 2 of the area of the application part.
- LM pectin can achieve a PFLB value of approximately 15% or less at a coating amount of 1.2 g / m 2 or more and 2.0 g / m 2 or less.
- FIG. 1 is a partially broken schematic perspective view showing a cigarette wound with a cigarette wrapping paper having a striped combustion suppression region according to one embodiment of the present invention
- FIG. 2 shows another embodiment of the present invention. It is a partially broken schematic perspective view which shows the cigarette wound by the cigarette paper which has an annular
- a cigarette 10 has a tobacco rod 11 made of a tobacco filler 13 wound in a column shape with a cigarette paper 12 of the present invention.
- the tobacco rod 11 usually has a circumferential length of 17 mm to 26 mm and a length of 49 mm to 90 mm.
- a normal filter 15 can be attached to the base end (that is, the downstream end in the suction direction) 11b of the tobacco rod 11 using a tip paper 14 by a normal method.
- a plurality of stripe-shaped regions 122 coated with a combustion inhibitor (LM pectin) as described above are formed on the inner surface (the surface in contact with the tobacco filler) of the base wrapping paper 121 constituting the wrapping paper 12 of the present invention, It defines a combustion suppression area.
- LM pectin a combustion inhibitor
- a normal combustion region 123 in which no combustion inhibitor is applied is defined. Since this region 123 is constituted by a portion of the base wrapping paper 121, it can be burned in a normal smoking state in the same manner as the base wrapping paper 121 itself. Accordingly, the region 123 acts as a normal combustion region.
- the stripe-shaped combustion suppression region 122 may have a circumferential width of 1 mm to 6 mm. The interval between adjacent combustion suppression regions 122 is preferably 2 mm to 20 mm.
- a region 124 where the combustion inhibitor is not applied can be provided in a region from the tip of the base wrapping paper 121 to the distance d.
- the portion of the tip that is not coated with the combustion inhibitor also constitutes a normal combustion region, and can correspond to a region that burns with one or two puffs of a normal cigarette.
- the distance d can be 10 mm to 25 mm from the tobacco rod tip 11a. It is not particularly necessary to form the combustion suppression region 122 on the inner surface of the wrapping paper corresponding to the portion of the wrapping paper 121 covered with the chip paper 14.
- the cigarette 20 shown in FIG. 2 has the same structure as the cigarette 10 shown in FIG. 1 except that the structure of the combustion suppression region in the cigarette paper around which the tobacco filler is wound is different. Therefore, in FIG. 2, the same reference numerals are given to the same elements as those in FIG. 1, and the description thereof is omitted.
- the cigarette wrapping paper 21 on which the tobacco filler 13 is wound has an annular band region 211 in which the base wrapping paper 121 is coated with a combustion inhibitor (LM pectin) as described above.

- These annular belt-like combustion suppression regions 211 are formed apart from each other in the longitudinal direction of the tobacco rod 11.
- a normal combustion region 212 where no combustion inhibitor is applied is defined. Since this region 212 is constituted by a portion of the base paper 121, it can be burned in a normal smoking state in the same manner as the base paper 121 itself. Accordingly, the region 212 acts as a normal combustion region, like the region 123 in FIG.
- the annular belt-like combustion suppression region 211 may have a longitudinal width of 4 mm to 7 mm.
- the interval between adjacent combustion suppression regions 24 is preferably 18 mm to 25 mm.
- the cigarettes 10 and 20 when the cigarettes 10 and 20 are ignited at the tip 11a and sucked and the cigarettes are burned, in the normal combustion regions 123 and 212, the cigarettes can be burned in the same manner as normal cigarettes, and the taste can be enjoyed.
- the cigarettes 10 and 20 are placed on a combustible material such as carpets, tatami mats, wooden products, cloth, clothes, etc. in an ignited state, the cigarette 10 is combined with the combustion suppression regions 122 and 211 and the heat absorption by the combustible materials. , 20 is extinguished, and the spread of combustible materials is suppressed.
- pectin used in the present examples and comparative examples are all products from CP kelco with DE values defined for each.
- the product names and DE values of these pectin are shown in Table 1.
- a base wrapping paper having specifications shown in Tables 2 to 4 (both 27 mm in width and 1.500 m in length; filler: calcium carbonate, combustion regulator: sodium citrate) and a 3 to 6% by weight aqueous solution of pectin.
- a pectin application region was provided by applying (printing) in a striped manner with a constant width of 7 mm in the longitudinal direction and at a constant interval of 20 mm by a direct gravure method.
- the total application amount of pectin was measured by the following method.
- This measurement was performed according to the carbazole colorimetric method described in the new food analysis method (pages 232 to 235).
- the wrapping paper coated with pectin was cut into a length of 0.8 m and a width of 27 mm (about 0.5 g), and further cut into 5 mm squares.
- the shredded wrapping paper was put into 30 mL of a 4 wt% sodium hexametaphosphate aqueous solution, heated at 70 ° C. for 30 minutes in a hot water bath, and then the supernatant was extracted. The same extraction operation was repeated three times for the extraction residue, and the supernatant was extracted in the same manner.
- the value of the total coating amount was divided by the wrapping paper area, and the pectin coating amount per 1 m 2 of the wrapping paper area used in this measurement was calculated. Since the width of the wrapping paper is 27 mm and the width of the portion where the pectin is applied is 7 mm, the calculated value of the amount of pectin applied per 1 m 2 of the wrapping paper area is multiplied by 27/7, The value of the amount of pectin applied per 1 m 2 area was obtained.
- ⁇ Fire spread test> Using the obtained wrapping paper, a tobacco rod made of American blend was wound, and cut so that the first coating region was disposed with a width of 5 mm from the cigarette burning tip. In each cigarette, the cigarette length was 59 mm and the pectin application area was two. The obtained cigarette was subjected to a fire spread test according to ASTM E-2187-04, and a PFLB (percent full-length burn) value was measured.
- Tables 2, 3 and 4 show the relationship between the DE value and the PFLB value of pectin when the amount of pectin applied per 1 m 2 of the area where pectin was applied was 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 g, respectively. Shown in
- Tables 5 and 6 show the relationship between the minimum amount of combustion inhibitor (pectin) applied and the DE value of pectin necessary to achieve the PFLB values of 0% and 25%, respectively.
