Abstract

Provided is a process for producing with high productivity a graphite film which exhibits little scattering in flatness, thickness and thermal diffusivity. The invention relates to a process for the production of graphite films by graphitizing a raw material film through heat treatment in a heating furnace provided with a heater which is characterized in that the area of the raw material film is 200cm2 or above and that the raw material film is heat-treated in a state held in the first case which is held in the second case which is held in a heater. It is preferable to flow an inert gas in the second case, while it is preferable in producing a graphite film to pile up alternately one or more polymer films and heat-resistant films exhibiting heat resistance at temperatures higher than the thermal decomposition temperature of the polymer films.
