Abstract

This invention provides an aggregate of a semiconductor nanoparticle phosphor free from cytotoxicity, and a biological substance labeling agent using the aggregate. The aggregate of a semiconductor nanoparticle phosphor is an aggregate of a semiconductor nanoparticle phosphor subjected to physicochemical surface treatment. The aggregate of a semiconductor nanoparticle phosphor is characterized in that, in a cytotoxicity test by a neutral red method, each of the concentrations at which the absorbance of neutral red after the culture for one day and 10 days is reduced to 50% of the absorbance before the culture, i.e., IC50, is not less than 1000 µg/ml.
