Abstract

This invention provides an electric double layer capacitor characterized in that the electric double layer capacitor comprises an electrode formed of an activated carbon having such a pore distribution that the value of peak A, which exhibits a maximum pore volume value in a pore diameter range of 1.0 to 1.5 nm, is in the range of 0.012 to 0.05 cm3/g, and 2 to 32% of the total pore volume value is accounted for by the pores in the above-defined range, and an organic electrolysis solution formed of an electrolyte comprising a nonaqueous solvent containing a cyclic carbonic ester, a chain carbonic ester and sulfolane or its derivative, and a quaternary onium salt, the content of sulfolane in the solvent for an organic electrolysis solution being 20 to 40% by mass based on the whole solvent. There are also provided a portable equipment and an IC tag comprising the electric double layer capacitor. The electric double layer capacitor has long-term reliability under 3.3 V withstand voltage, an excellent performance retention even in an ultralow temperature region of -20°C or below, and excellent Pb-free solder reflow properties.
