Definitions
- the present invention relates to a support for receiving a tire pressure sensor.
- a tire pressure monitoring system It is known to equip a motor vehicle, or a truck, with a tire pressure monitoring system. To monitor this pressure, a sensor is disposed inside the tire whose pressure is to be monitored. An electronic box is then placed in the tire and cooperates with a central unit mounted on board the vehicle thus making it possible to inform the driver of the pressure of his tires.
- Such tire pressure monitoring systems are known to those skilled in the art and are not described in detail here.
- an electronic box is disposed inside the tire.
- This housing naturally includes a pressure sensor. It also comprises means for sending the pressure measurements made to the above-mentioned central unit as well as a power source, generally a battery, to enable the operation of the various components inside the electronic box. .
- the means for transmitting the result of the pressure measurements carried out comprise a transmitter (generally an LF or low frequency transmitter of the order of 125 kHz) and also an antenna.
- the electronic unit is generally mounted on a valve fitted to each wheel of this vehicle, this valve being used to introduce or release air into the tire and adjust the pressure prevailing in this one.
- the same metal cradle for rims of different diameters.
- the same cradle can be used on both a 13-inch rim and a 24-inch rim. It is also appropriate to have a substantially constant glue thickness between the rim and the cradle. It is therefore necessary a priori provide to be able to adapt the radius of curvature of the part of the cradle intended to stick on the rim.
- the present invention therefore aims to provide a housing support structure for adaptation to various rim diameters.
- the cradle preferably remains stationary (for example by pressing the cradle on the rim) so as to avoid the peeling effect known to those skilled in the art.
- the part deforms (and therefore peels off) elastically slowly during bonding thus affecting at least locally the thickness of the adhesive layer and thereby the effectiveness of the bonding.
- it is generally necessary to keep the piece in place during bonding and this especially if the radius of curvature of the rim is different from that of the support.
- the invention provides a support for receiving an electronic box and to be fixed on a rim of a vehicle, comprising a base and means for fixing the housing on the base.
- the base is provided with stiffening means obtained by plastic deformation and adapted to give this base different radii of curvatures.
- the stiffening means maintain this deformation.
- Such a support can thus be glued without elastic deformation occurring during gluing.
- the shape of the support is maintained during the bonding operation for producing a layer of glue of constant thickness and polymerization of the glue being effected under good conditions.
- the base of the support comprises a first substantially flat portion, possibly curved, and a second portion forming a single piece with the first portion and inclined relative to this first portion, and means stiffening are arranged on the second part of the base. It is possible in this way to have excellent stiffening of the first part, the second part serving here as a stiffener.
- the second portion of the base is, for example, corrugated, the corrugations extending substantially perpendicular to the line of junction between the first and second parts of the base.
- the second corrugated portion reacts like a fan that opens and "memorizes" the given position.
- the latter advantageously comprises a third portion similar to the second portion and disposed substantially symmetrically with respect to the first portion of the base.
- the base comprises for example a substantially flat portion, possibly curved, and having on the side of the fastening means of the stiffening ribs.
- These ribs may come in addition to or in replacement of the stiffeners described above. They may for example extend substantially parallel to the long sides of the rectangle when the first portion is of generally rectangular shape but it is also possible that the ribs extend substantially in a star from the center of the base.
- the present invention also relates to a vehicle wheel comprising a rim, characterized in that a support as described above is fixed on the rim by gluing.
- the template used has for example a radius of curvature less than the radius of curvature that is desired at the base of the support. It is thus possible to take into account the possible elastic returns of the support after removing the template.
- FIG. 1 is a side view of a pressure sensor mounted via a support according to the invention on a rim
- FIG. 2 shows on an enlarged scale the support of FIG. 1 in plan view
- FIG. 3 shows an alternative embodiment of the support of FIG. 2
- Figure 4 is a sectional view along the section line IV-IV of Figure 3.
- Figure 1 shows a circular arc rim 2 of a motor vehicle. The latter is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. Thus in each wheel of this vehicle is a pressure sensor. This sensor is placed in an electronic box 4. The latter is mounted on support 6 in the form of a cradle. The support 6 is held on the rim 2 by a layer of adhesive 8.
- the electronic box 4 can be fixed in various ways on its support 6. In the embodiment shown in the drawing, the support 6 has a hook 10 and a bracket 12. The hook 10, whose concavity is oriented towards the rim 2, for example cooperates with an axis (not shown) integrated in the control unit 4.
- the support 6 is fixed to the rim 2 by the adhesive layer 8. It is known to those skilled in the art that to obtain a good bonding it is necessary to have a layer of homogeneous adhesive and thick substantially constant. To obtain such a layer of adhesive, the support 6 must therefore have a bonding zone that substantially matches the shape of the rim 2 at least locally. This part of the support
- socle 16 in the form of a curved plane, is referred to in the remainder of the description as socle 16.
- FIG. 2 shows a top view of the support 6 of FIG. 1.
- This figure shows the base 16, the hook 10 and the fastening tab 12.
- the base 16 has a substantially rectangular shape. Note on the two long sides of the base 16 the presence of two stiffeners 18. This is a part of the support 6 forming a single piece with the base 16 (and with the hook 10 and the bracket 12). The assembly formed by the base 16 and the stiffeners 18 is hereafter called the base of the support 6.
- Each stiffener 18 is obtained by fan folding a part of the sheet from which the support 6 is made. If it is assumed that the base 16 of the support 6 corresponds to a cylindrical surface of horizontal axis, then the stiffeners 18 lie in a substantially vertical plane. The stiffeners 18 are located here substantially perpendicularly to the base 16. The corrugations of the stiffeners 18 extend perpendicularly to the line of junction between the base 16 and the corresponding stiffener 18. Note also in Figure 2 the presence of two ribs 20. These ribs 20 project from the same side as the stiffener 18, that is to say the side of the base 16 opposite the rim 2.
- the stiffeners 18 and the ribs 20 make it possible to give shape stability to the base of the support 6 once it has been deformed so as to adapt to the radius of curvature of the rim 2 to which the support 6 is intended.
- the support 6 is obtained by cutting, then stamping and finally folding a metal plate. After these operations, it can be provided that the base 16 of the support 6 is planar or it can for example provide that its curvature corresponds to the curvature of the rim of larger diameter to which the support 6 is intended.
- the stiffeners 18 and the ribs 20 allow to maintain the shape (flat or curved) of the base.
- the final shaping of the support 6 is carried out on a mounting line on which the pressure sensor is mounted on its rim.
- the support 6 is then shaped on a template adapted to the rim 2 on which it will then be glued.
- the diameter of the template does not necessarily correspond to the diameter of the rim.
- the same support 6 can be used on different types of rims and for each of them a perfect contact between the base of the support and the rim can be maintained thanks in particular to the stiffeners 18 and the ribs 20. During the gluing, the tensions resulting from poor form cohesion between the two bonded parts can thus be eliminated. It is even possible with a support 6 according to the invention to reduce the pressure time during the polymerization of the glue since the base of the support does not tend to peel off naturally.
- This new support concept makes it possible to obtain a layer of adhesive 8 of constant thickness and uniformly distributed between the base of the support and the rim.
- this makes it possible to have a constant distance between the control unit 4 and the rim 2.
- This constant distance is favorable as regards the repeatability of the radio frequency transmission performance from the control unit 4. It has indeed It has been observed on other electronic boxes that this variation in distance could induce parasitic phenomena during transmissions and receptions of radio frequency waves.
- FIGS. 3 and 4 show an alternative embodiment of the support 6 of FIGS. 1 and 2.
- the support 6 no longer has a stiffener 18.
- the stiffening of the base is obtained using ribs 22. These ribs are similar to the ribs 20 of the first embodiment but are arranged differently on the base of the support 6.
- the ribs 22 always protrude from the side of the base 16 opposite the rim 2.
- These ribs 22 are of narrow width ( of the order of one millimeter). They are arranged here in a star from a central point 24. This provides a stiffening of the base in several directions.
- the central point 24 can for example be used for fixing and / or maintaining the electronic unit 4 on the support 6.
- This second embodiment provides substantially the same advantageous as those described with reference to the first embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2 and above.
- the support according to this second embodiment makes it possible to obtain a simple support which is inexpensive to produce and which provides mechanical stability in the life of the product.
- the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above by way of non-limiting examples. It also relates to the variants within the scope of those skilled in the art within the scope of the claims below.
