Abstract
The invention refers to a handle for a bottle, to a bottle for packing liquids in general adapted for use with the handle, and to a bottle-handle assembly, the bottle being especially of PET and having a support ring extending radially outwards in the neck region of the bottle. The objectives of the present invention consist in providing a handle, a bottle and a bottle-handle assembly, the handle being easily mountable around the ring of the bottle, and the assembly having a great structural resistance. These objectives are achieved by the fact that the handle (1) comprises a bipartite body provided with two body portions jointed together (5, 6) and by the fact that the bottle (2) comprises reinforcement elements (19, 20) in the region (16, 18) adjacent the neck of the bottle.
Description
Title: HANDLE FOR A BOTTLE AND BOTTLE ADAPTED FOR USE WITH THE HANDLE
The present invention refers to a handle for a bottle, to a bottle for liquids in general, adapted for use with the handle and to a bottle-handle assembly, the bottle being especially made of PET and having a portion for packing a liquid, a neck portion, an upper region adjacent the neck, the upper region comprising first and second parts adjacent to each other and a support ring which extends radially outwards in the neck region.
A first objective of the present invention is to provide a handle which can be easily mounted around the support ring of the bottle.
A second objective of the present invention is to provide a bottle, especially a bottle of PET, for use in conjunction with the handle.
A third objective of the present invention is to provide a bottle-handle assembly having great structural resistance, permitting even a reduction of raw material in the manufacture of the bottle.
The first objective of the invention is achieved by the fact that the handle comprises a bipartite body having first and second body portions, a half-rim and an elongated handle portion that are formed on each body portion, the handle portion extending from a first end region of the half-rim; a joint joining the first and second body portions and a slot formed along each half-rim, the slots being adapted for engaging at least a part of the sup- port ring of the bottle. Preferably, the handle involves the support ring almost entirely.
The second and third objectives of the present invention are achieved by the fact that the bottle comprises a depression formed in the first part, the depression being adapted for abutting on the handle portion in the mounted position of the handle on the bottle and having a size sufficient to allow a user to introduce at least part of his hand in the region defined between the handle and the depression. In addition, the bottle is provided with a plurality of reinforcement elements on the first and second parts.
The present invention foresees a handle which may be built so as to involve the reinforcement ring of the bottle entirely. This is particularly advantageous, since, while handling the bottle, the forces will be distributed over the whole contact surface defined between the handle and the ring. In addition, since the bottle is provided with reinforcement elements in the upper region adjacent the neck, the bottle-handle assembly has a great structural resistance, and so it is possible to reduce the quantity of raw material in the manufacture of the bottle substantially. More specifically, the bottle of the present invention may be manufactured with about 20% less raw material when compared to the bottles used today on the market.
The invention will now be described with reference to non-limitative examples illustrated in the drawings. The figures show:
- figure 1 is a side view of the bottle with the handle mounted on it;
- figure 2 is a perspective view of the handle in the open position;
- figure 2a is a view of a detail of figure 2, showing the slot of the half-rim and the step-shaped recess in the joining region between the half-rim and the handle portion;
- figure 3 is another perspective view of the handle in the open position;
- figure 4 is another perspective view of the handle, now in the closed position;
- figure 5 is a partial front view of the bottle showing the upper portion which contains the depression; and
- figure 6 is a partial front view of the bottle showing the upper part opposite the part which contains the depression.
According to figures 1 , 5, and 6, the bottle 2 comprises a region 15 for packing liquids in general, an upper region immediately below the neck 4, the upper region comprising a first part 16 and a second part 18, a support ring 3 and a threaded nozzle 24 for receiving a usual cap (not shown).
As better illustrated in figures 1 , 5, and 6, the first part 16 of the upper region has the shape of a depression, this depression being provided with a projection 21 at its end region close to the neck 4. The upper portion further comprises a plurality of reinforcement elements which assume the shape of grooves 19 in the depression 16 and shoulders
20 in the second part 18. As shown in figures 5 and 6, the grooves 19 are substantially A- shaped and the shoulders 20 are substantially petal-shaped. Preferably, the grooves 19 have a depth of about 3 mm.
According to figures 2 to 4, the handle 1 , preferably made of a plastic material, is formed by a bipartite body comprising two parts 5, 6, each part being provided with a half- rim 7 and a handle portion 8. The ends of the half-rims 7 opposite the ends from which the handle portions 8 extend are joined together by a membrane 9, which causes the two parts 5, 6 composing the handle 1 to be articulated.
As better illustrated in figures 2 and 3, the handle portions are provided with re- spective pins 11 and holes 12, which engage each other in the closed position of the handle, as shown in figure 4.
Each half-rim 7of the handle 1 is further provided, in the inner part, with a slot 10, the slot 10 being adapted for fitting onto the support ring 3 of the bottle 2 in the mounted position of the handle on the bottle, as illustrated schematically in figure 1.
In the operation of mounting the handle 1 onto the bottle 2, one of the half-rims
7 is positioned on the ring 3. Then, the other part of the handle is folded onto the remaining part of the ring 3, making sure that the slots 10 are perfectly and completely involving the ring 3. If so, the closing of the handle is completed by fitting the pins 11 into the holes 12.
Once the handle 1 is mounted on the bottle 2, the step-shaped recess 14 pro- vided in the joining region between the handle portion 8 and the half-rim 7 (figures 2 and 2a) faces and contacts the projection 21 provided in the depression 16. As shown in figure 1 , the handle should be facing the depression 16, the depression 16 having a size so as to allow at least a part of the hand of a user to be inserted into the region defined between the handle 1 and the depression 16.
As best illustrated in figure 4, the handle portions 8 have an anatomical shape with recesses 26 for accommodating the fingers of the user.
By the conjunction of the bottle and the handle of the present invention, an end product results which is easy to handle, simple to mount, with low manufacturing cost (it takes less raw material for its manufacture) and has perfect structural resistance, since the efforts originated during the handling of the assembly are fully distributed over the contact region between the surface of the slot 10 and the ring 3.
