Definitions
- the invention relates to an urn for urn burial.
- urn burial ashes are placed in a specific cinerary urn, wherein they are lowered into an urn grave.
- Urns are currently manufactured of e.g. wood and other laminar materials, of which the side and base por ⁇ tions are manufactured first and thereafter fastened to ⁇ gether.
- a weakness of known urn solutions is that they are quite expensive to manufacture.
- a further weakness is the abundant use of material that decomposes inad ⁇ equately in the ground or does not decompose at all. Consequently the ground comprises substances and mater- ial resulting from previous burials preventing the sub ⁇ sequent use of the same burial place.
- the object of this invention is to provide an urn for eliminating the above disadvantages.
- the urn of the invention is characterized in that at least the urn receptacle is mainly of wood fibre material.
- the urn is manufactured from wood fibre material, such as recycled paper or other material by pressing it while moist into the shape of an urn, whereafter it is allowed to dry so that it forms a solid rigid urn.
- adhesive medium readily decomposable in nature, is mixed with the material in order to ensure that the fibre material will keep shape.
- An advantage of the invention is that an urn manufactured from wood fibre material naturally and readily decomposes in nature leaving no detrimental sub ⁇ stances.
- wood fibre material is available as so-called fines mass, produced especially in proces- sing recycled material and otherwise delivered as waste to the dump, and thus this may also be easily utilized.
- the invention will be described in greater de ⁇ tail in the accompanying drawing, showing one side view and a partial section of the urn of the invention.
- the Figure shows an urn, comprising an actual urn receptacle 1 and above it a lid 2.
- the lid 2 is shown at a distance above the urn receptacle 1 to illustrate its structure.
- the wall la and base lb of the urn receptacle are made up of a solid material of an appropriate thickness to ensure that the urn receptacle is adequately firm and rigid.
- the urn receptacle is manufactured by introducing adequately moist mass, mainly containing wood fibre material, between a suit ⁇ ably shaped newel and a mould surrounding it, whereafter the fibre material is compressed so as to form an op ⁇ timally compact entirety.
- adhesive material for better fixing of the fibre material into a uniform material, adhesive material, readily decomposable in nature, such as starch, other natural glues etc, may have been mixed into it before compression, by means of which adhesive material the wood fibres or possibly wood fibre fragments, formed by shredding from fibre material, fix together tightly and reliably.
- the wood fibre material utilized may be formed from e.g. recycled paper by comminution or reduction, or it may be e.g. so called fines waste produced in pulping of recycled paper, said waste comprising, in ad ⁇ dition to wood fibre, a slight quantity of clay or other filling materials.
- these filling materials as such are not necessarily decomposable in nature, they are natural materials, which mix with the ground in a normal manner.
- grooves etc. may easily be designed onto the urn receptacle 1, as is evident from the section of the Figure.
- Such grooves 3 may be made, if desired, on all sides of the urn recept- acle and on one or more sides additional grooves or bossages may be made for producing different figures, like the cross shown in the Figure, onto the sides of the urn receptacle.
- the lid 2 of the urn receptacle is made in a corresponding manner by introducing wood fibre mass as such or mixed with an adhesive material as described above into another mould, where it is compressed so as to produce a typically shallow lid with a sloping sur ⁇ face of a desired shape.
- the lower side of the lid 2 comprises a boss, which suitably fits between the edges of the urn receptacle, or if needed, a mere cordon, by means of which the lid 2 may be positioned correctly relative to the urn receptacle 1.
- the lid 2 may be fastened to the urn receptacle, after placing the ashes therein, either with nails extending through it into the urn receptacle or by fastening it with a suitable bond ⁇ ing agent into the inner edges of the urn receptacle so as to produce a trim entirety pleasing to the eye.
- a holder 4 for lowering the urn into the grave may be fastened in a simple manner a holder 4 for lowering the urn into the grave.
- the holder 4 may be e.g. a cord or a strap of a suitable length. It may be fastened to the urn receptacle e.g. through holes 5 made in the wall of the urn receptacle for allowing the holder to pass from the outer surface of the urn receptacle through a hole 5 into the urn receptacle, where, at its simplest, a knot has been made thereto for keeping it from getting out through the hole 5.
- the holder 4 may be fastened in other manners, but such a fastening manner is, both regarding manufacturing technique and other ⁇ wise, simple and easy to realize.
- the urn receptacle is manufactured from wood fibre material and most preferably from recycled fibre mater ⁇ ial. If required it is possible, when manufacturing the urn receptacle and also the lid, to provide the mould with a coating layer of a suitable material, which layer adheres to the surfaces of the urn and the lid, respect ⁇ ively, when the urn and the lid are compressed, so as to produce a trim and finished end product.
- An alternat ⁇ ive for achieving the desired appearance is to coat the urn and the lid either by painting or by some other suitable manner after compression and drying.
- the lid may be manufactured also from other material than wood fibre material, but as a whole the best decision is to manufacture both from wood fibre material readily decom ⁇ posable in nature.
