Description

A decorative tile
The invention relates to a decorative tile designed to give yet another alternative to the solid conventional tile.
The design of the tile is based on the idea that within a de- corative tile, the lines that create the geometric pattern or picture design on the whole solid tile are themselves the main and important factor in giving the tile that decorative look- It is these lines that are extracted to become the main body of the tile, where as the non-decorative, plain areas of the tile are removed. For example, in the simple use of a solid rectan¬ gular tile that has a grid pattern design, the main decorative factor of the grid lines will become the body of the tile with the rectangular area between the grid being disregarded to create a grid line tile.
In the design of the tile, one of the aims is to eliminate true straight edges but having a minimum of outer limits for contact with another tile so as to minimize the breaks in the continuity of a geometric pattern, text or simple picture tiling.
The tile is constructed from flexible base materials with the upperside of the lines not being of a flat shape and can be affixed to glass, mirror, plastic; as it is of a see through nature and permit visibility. Where a tile is used external¬ ly on autoglass, such as a window and a windscreen or on a marine vessel, on the upper face of the tile can be a message to a third party , to discourage removal, that is located at a pre¬ determined position that can say "not reusable" or similar. There are areas for attachments of small lights or reflectors that can be used for decorative effects in the dark.
The tile can be affixed to walls, cielings, wooden or metal panels and other surfaces, flat or curved to produce a textur¬ ed or contoured effect for decorative purposes. One way of earring out the invention is described in detail below with reference to the occompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a decorative tile in accordance with the invention showing the lines that constitutes the whole of the tile.
Figure 2 shows a side view of the tile indicating the shape of the lines and thickness and also the backing sheet to the flat side of the tile.
Figure 3 shows the decorative tile connected to other similar tiles by the outerlimits for contact to produce a picture design of a large area, displaying little or no apparent in¬ terruption in its creation.
