(Application filed June 18, 1901.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEE WARD, OF YANOEY, TEXAS.
DESIGN FOR AN ANTIRATTLER FOR END GATES OF WAGONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,176, dated October 8, 1901.
Application filed June 18, 1901. Serial No. 66,071. Term of patent '7 years.
To aZZ- whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, LEE WVARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yancey, in the county of Medina and State of Texas, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Antirattlers for End- Gates of Vagons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawingsfiorming a part thereof.
My invention relates to antirattlers designed for the end-gates of wagons; and it consists in the new and original design illustrated in the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a front elevation of the antirattler, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same looking in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. l.
The essential feature of my design consists of a helical-shaped body portion, terminating at its upper end in a perforated lug shaped to correspond or register with the top side of an end-gate of a wagon, while the lower end of said body portion terminates in a perforated lug having its lower end bent to form a purchase or handle.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, A denotes the body portion of the antirattler, which consists of a coiled spring.
13 denotes a lug formed integral with and projecting above the spring, bent at an angle, as shown in Fig. 1, and having at its free end a bolt-hole b, as shown in Fig. 2.
C denotes a lug formed integral with and projecting below the spring-provided perforations c c c, as shown in Fig. 2, and having its lower end a bent at an angle, as shown in Fig. 1, which serves as a purchase for bearing down on the spring when the antirattler is placed in position.
Having shown and described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for an antirattler for the endgates of wagons substantially as shownand described.
In testimony whereof I ai'fix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEE WARD.
