UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH D. STASSART, OF PORTLAND, OREGON, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO EDWARD J. JAEGER, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A PENClL-SHARPENER AND ERASERHOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,335, dated April 9, 1901.
Application filed February 19, 1901. Serial No- 48,020. Term of patent 7 years.
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPH D. STAssAR'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented and produced a new and original Design forPencil-Sharpeners and Eraser-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure l is a perspective view of my new design, and Fig. 2 a cross-sectional View thereof.
As shown in the drawings, the leading or material feature of my design consists of a cylindrical body A, having at its ends tapering portions B B, whose smaller ends are disposed outwardly.
Extending from the smaller end of one of the tapering portions B is a cylindrical portion O, considerably smaller in diameter than body portion A and formed about its surface with a spirally-arranged groove D. Extending outwardly from the smaller end of the other portion B is a cylindrical portion E, smaller in diameter than the body portion A and having its outer edge flared outwardly, as indicated at F. This flared edge F is formed with a semicylindrical notch G, and the cylindrical portion E is formed with a longitudb nally-extending slot H, which extends inwardly from the notch G and at its inner end terminates in a circular opening I.
The body portion A is formed with a 1011* gitudinally-extending slot J, one side wall of which is disposed at an inclination with respect to the longitudinal extent of the body portion. Upon the inclined wall of said slot is a plate K, the inner edge of which is inclined and beveled, as illustrated at L. This beveled edge projects into the interior of the cylindrical body, as illustrated. The surface of the cylindrical bodyA is indented or roughened, as illustrated.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The design for a pencil sharpener and eraser-holder, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH D. STASSART.
