BACK FOR. BRUSHES 6:0.
Patented May 3, 1898.
WITNIEEEEI INYZUH UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DESIGN FOR A BACK FOR BRUSHES, 80C.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,526, dated May 3, 1898.
Application filed March 31,1898. Serial 110,676,002. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE W. Fos'rEE, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Backs of Brushes or Similar Articles, of which the following is aspecification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
The drawing is a view of the back of a hairbrush.
The leading and material feature of my design consists in the foliated and headed oval ornament having the representation of two human figures at the lower part of the oval, the oval ornamentation inclosing a plain panel, and in the peculiar foliated and headed ornamentation of the handle.
In the drawing, A indicates the back of the brush proper, and B the handle. The portion A of the back is of oval outline and from the junction of the handle B with the oval of the brush-back A extend in opposite directions the raised beads 1 1, their lower adjoining ends being formed into closed scrolls, their upper ends being formed into open scrolls abutting on an upward-pointed ornament having a central line of semispherical beads diminishing in size. The raised beads 1 1 form an oval smaller than the back A. From the center of the junction of the bandle with the back of the brush-body on the inner side of the raised beads 1 I extend foliations which merge in the oppositely-disposed human figures 2 2, and above these figures extend the strings of semispherical beads 3 3, gradually increasing in size and terminating at the open scrolls of the upper ends of the raised beads 1 1. Obliqnely-disposed foliations extend along both sides of the raised beads 1 1 above the figures and inclose the smooth panel 4. The upper end of the brushback A is ornamented with a conventional honeysuckle Ornament having rows of graduated semispherical beads, and from this spring on opposite sides the foliated scrolls 5 5.
The handle B at its junction with the brushbody A is ornamented with the oppositelycurved honeysuckle ornament 6, having a central string of graduated beads. The raised and foliated scrolls 7 extend along the margin of the handle and inclose a small panel, and from the ends of the foliations of the scrolls 7 extend the oppositely disposed scrolls 8, from the foliations of which spring the raised beads 9,terminatin g in scrolled ends abutting on a central foliated ornament. The lower end of the handle has the conventional beaded honeysuckle ornament 10, from which extend on the opposite sides the scroll ornament 11, the foliations of which extend to the scrolled ends of the raised beads 9, giving to the eye the appearance of a series of oppositely-curved scrolled foliated beads interspersed with a series of graduated strings of semispherical beads and forming on the back of the brush proper a smaller oval within and on one end of the larger oval of the brushback.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for the back of a brush or similar article herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
