Description

DESIGN.
F. A. HOLLENBECK.
BICYCLE SADDLE.
No. 28,434. Patented Mar. 29, 1898.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK A. HOLLENBECK, OF SYRACUSE, NE'W YORK.
DESIGN FOR A BICYCLE-SADDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,434, dated March 29, 1898. Application filed January 24, 1898. Serial No. 667,834. Term of patent 7 years.
To aZl whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK A. HOLLENBECK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Bicycle-Saddles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
My invention is a new and original design for bicycle-saddles; and it consists in the form and contour illustrated in the accompanying drawings and fully disclosed in the following description and claim.
Referring to the said drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a bicycle-saddle embodying my design. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View of the same on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View on line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
The back edge a of the saddle is curved outwardly in the arc of a circle, the ends of the arc being curved sharply inwardly, as at b, to a point near the longitudinal center of the saddle and then converging to the point 0 of the pommel. The saddle has downwardly inclined or sloping edges 61 all the way around it and a deep longitudinally-disposed groove e running through the center. The outer edges ff of the saddle are higher than the central portions adjacent to the groove, and
the top portions of the saddle in rear of the narrowed pommel slope from said outer edges f f downwardly toward the center, as shown at g g in Fig. 2, and also forwardly, as shown in Fig. 3. The portions h h of the top of the saddle at each side of the groove e extend in a substantially straight line from the back to the end of point of the pomme], as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
The foregoing constitute the leading features of my design.
Another feature of the design is the ornamental plates k, which are placed on the sloping edges of the saddle at two opposite points at the outer sides of the saddle, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Another feature of the design is an ornamental plate Z, curved in cross-section, lying in said groove, as shown, and having at its rear end a broadened portion, which extends down over the rear inclined face.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a saddle for bicycles, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK A. HOLLEN BECK.
