COMBINED WINDOW-SHADE AND CURTAIN BRACKET Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, JAMES M. AsHMonE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined \Vindow- Shade and Curtain Brackets, of which the shades of various widths may be accommo-' dated.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this class with detachable curtain pole supporting members, the same being easily and quickly positioned or removed from the device as occasion requires.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description progrosses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 J is a perspective view of the improvement in applied position upon a window casing. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of one of the end brackets. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one end of the device illustrating a slightly modified form thereof. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the curtain bracket supporting element illustrated in Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is a similar view of one of the end brackets of the modified form of the device.

In the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates an ordinary window casing. The upper or connecting strip 2 of the casing is cent-rally provided with a substantially U shaped clip 3, the latter beingprovided with olfset feett lraving suit-able perforations adapted for the reception of suitable securing elements. The central portion of the U-shaped clip 3 is further provided with a threaded aperture and the said aperture is adapted for the reception of a thread-. ed securing element 5. This element 5 ,is adapted to contact with the upper longitu-' dinally extending member ofa pair of slidable bars. These bars, designated respectively by thenumerals 6 and 7 have their 7 outer ends'bent at right angles as by the numerals 8 and 9. Each of the said angular extensions 8 and 9 are provided with suitable openings adapted for the reception of the ends of the shade roller.

The inner ends of each of the bars 6 and- 7 are bent to provide the lips 10 and 11. The lip 10 provided upon the bar 6 is bent upwardly or away from the casing, while the lip 11 provided upon the bar 7 is bent in an opposite direction or toward the face of the casing.

In order to prevent the downturned lip 11 from contacting and marring the casing, as well as to sustain or overlie the bars in proper alinement with each other and to reinforce -the same, I have provided the slidable collars 12 and 13. These collars 12 and 13 straddle both of the bars 6 and 7 as clearly illustrated in the several figtires of the drawing.

The numerals 14 and 15 designate the end brackets of the device. These brackets are each of a similar construction and are constructed of a piece of suitable material. Each of the brackets is provided Wltl'lglllgll' of spaced substantially U-shaped ofls p rtions designated respectively by the numerals 16 and 17. The'otfset 16 of each of the brackets is adapted to receive one of theslidable bars,'while the upper or second U-v shaped olfset has its upper and lower wall formed with alining openings 18. 'These openings 18 are adapted for the reception of the offset end 19 of the curtain pole suporting members 20. I

It will be noted by reference to the several figures of the drawings that when the offsetportion 19 of the curtain pole supporting member is inserted through the openings 18, the same is of a'length sufficient to contact the upper wall of each of the U-shaped members 16, so that a lateral movement of the said bracket is prevented and the downward movement of the offset 19 is compensated.

In the modification, the bracket 21 is of a substantially similar structure to that hereinbefore described, the same being provided with a pair of longitudinally arranged substantially U-shaped enlargements 22 and 23. The enlargement or offset 22 is adapted for the reception of one of the slidable bars while the upper wall of the ofi'set 23 is inclined and formed with a longitudinal opening. The body of the offset is provided with an opening arranged transversely of the inclined opening, and which communicates therewith, so as to provide a T-shaped slot 24.

The end of the curtain pole supporting member 25 is centrally formed with a T- shaped extension 26 and adjacent the said extension the said member is provided with inclined fingers 27, These fingers 27 are of a length suliicient to engage the upper wall provided by the offset 22, so that the said curtain pole supporting member is effectively sustained upon the bracket after its T-shaped extension 26 has been inserted within the T-shaped opening of the bracket.

Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, is:.

1. The combination with a window casing, a substantially Ushaped clip upon said casing, end brackets upon the said casing, each of said end brackets comprising a longitudinal strip formed with upper and lower U-shaped ofl'sets, slidable shade supporting bars, each of said bars being mounted within the lower offsets of the end brackets and passing through the central clip, means provided by the central clip for retaining the I brackets one upon the other, the upper oliset of the end brackets being formed with openings and a curtain pole supporting member adapted to engage the said openings and to contact the upper wall of the lower ofi'set.

2. The combination with a window casing, bracket members connected with the ends of the window casing, each of said bracket members being formed with a pair of spaced substantially U-shaped ofi'sets, a U-shaped clip positioned central of the brackets, an adjustable threaded element for the clip, a pair of curtain shade supporting bars one mounted upon the other slidably positioned within one of the offsets of each of the brackets and adapted to pass through the central clip, each' of said bars having their inner ends bent in opposite directions, a collar straddling the bars adjacent each side of the central clip, the second offset of the end brackets being formed with openings, and a curtain pole supporting member having one of its ends offset and adapted to be inserted within the said openings and to contact the upper wall of the first named offset of the bracket.
