amwm WILLIAM I). MERRELL, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
WINDOW-SHADE BRACKET AND HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 14, 1909.
Patented July 26, 1910.
Serial No. 517,620.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM D. MERRELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in WVindow-Shade Brackets and Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved window shade bracket and hanger and consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved device of this character, which is adapted to be permanently attached to a window casing and is capable of adjustment to accommodate window shades of various widths.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the upper portion of a window provided with shade brackets and holders constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view of my improved bracket and holder, on a plane intersecting the base of one of the arms of the holder and also intersecting the locking collar and the bar. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the holder.
My improved window shade fixture comprises a pair of brackets 1, which are connected together by a bar 2 and a holder 3, which is adjustably mounted on the said bar. Each bracket 1 comprises a base portion 4 to bear against the window casing and an outwardly extending arm 5. The bar 2 connects the said arms and is of suitable length and the said bar has its upper and lower edges rounded and its lower edge is also provided with notches 6. The holder 3 is here shown as made of a single strip of sheet or plate metal doubled, as at 7 and the ends of which are offset, as at 8, to form a pair of arms 9 at the upper end of the holder, which arms are provided with openings 10 through which the bar 2 extends, the said holder being thereby connected to the bar for longitudinal movement thereof. The holder is provided in its lower end with an opening 11 of suitable size and shape to receive the spindle or stud at one end of the shade roller 12, said shade roller and the caps thereof being provided with spindles or studs of the usual well known construction. In the space between the arms 9 is a locking collar 13, which is slidable and also partially revoluble on the bar and has an opening therein through which the bar extends, said opening being almost a complete circle and the said locking collar having a volute cam 14 in one side of said opening which may be turned into or out of engagement with any of the notches of the bar 2, so as to secure the said locking collar and hence also the holder at any desired point on the said bar. To facilitate the manipulation of the locking collar the latter is provided with peripheral notches 15.
It will be understood that in practice, and
vas shown in Fig. 1, a pair of my improved curtain fixtures will be used in connection with each window and. shade and it will be also understood that since the holders may be readily adjusted longitudinally of the bars 2 they may be made to accommodate shade rollers of various lengths, so that shades of various widths may be attached and used at the window without the necessity of removing and reapplying the shade fixtures.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
A shade fixture of the class described comprising a bar provided with lock notches on one side and further provided with means whereby said bar may be attached to a window casing, a holder adjustable longitudinally on said bar and supported thereby, said holder having means whereby one end of a shade roller may be mounted therein, and a locking collar connected to a holder movable longitudinally and also revolubly on the bar, having an opening through which the said bar extends and provided at one side of said opening with a volute cam for move ment into or out of engagement with any of the notches of said bar.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM D. MERRELL.
