DOUBLE PENHOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 11, 1911.
Application filed April 16, 1909. Serial No. 490,237.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE FREDERICK BoEssER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kearny, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Double Penholders, of which the following is a speci ication.
This invention relates to double pen holders for bookkeepers use, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is extremely simple in construction and which is cheap to manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing there has been illustrated a simple and preferred embodiment of the invention, and in which,
Figure l is a perspective view illustrating my improvement in operative position. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the nib retainer. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is an end View of the same.
In the accompanying drawing the numeral l designates the nib retainer. This retainer l is constructed from a single blank of suitable material and comprises a rounded body portion 2 from which ,is formed a pair of spaced projecting nib engaging members 3 and a rearwardly extending shank member 4, which is connected with the handle 5 of the device. The shank 4L is formed by simply bending the projecting edges provided by the body portion upon themselves, and the nib engaging members 3 each have their ends bent inwardly upon themselves to provide spaced nib engaging channels.
It is primarily intended that the device be employed in connection with a single and a double nib pen but of course it is obvious that the pair of double nib pens or a pair of single nib pens could be employed with equal efficiency and agreeing to the number of lines to be drawn.
It will be noted by reference to the several figures of the drawing that the shank t is positioned directly intermediate the nib engaging members 3 and that the said shank is extended from the body 2 in an opposite direction to that of the said members 3.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be noted that I have provided an extremely simple and effective device for the purpose intended, one which is preferably constructed from a single blank of suitable resilient material, which can have its shank expanded to iit and tightly engage handles of various sizes, and which can also have its nib engaging members 8 spread so as to engage the pens of different sizes, and it is to be further understood that while I have illustrated and described the preferred em bodiment of the invention, minor details of construction within the scope of the following claim may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A pen holder of the class described, comprising a Y-shaped body formed from a resilient blank of sheet material provided with a pair of spaced parallel extensions, and an oppositely directed single extension arranged inthe same plane therewith, said single extension being bent to provide a split circular ferrule for receiving a handle, the said pair of extensions being outwardly bowed, and inbent gripping flanges at opposite longitudinal edges of and coextensive with said pair of extensions and adapted to lie contiguous to the inner faces thereof for receiving and sustaining pen points centered therein against turning movement.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE WILLIAM BoEssER, CHARLES WHITE.
