Description

linitell tant vLetters Patent No. 97 ,376, dated November 30, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN BENCH-CLAMP.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making paxt of the sama "To, all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 0. L. FENNER, of Rochester,
vin the county of Monroe, and State of New York,
have invented anew and improved Adjustable Bench- Clamp; and I do hereby declare that the following is This invention relates rto a new adjustable benchclamp, to be used for carpenters and other mechanics; and
rIhe invention consists in the general arrangement and combination of a screw-support and adjustablyfixed jaw, as hereinafter more fully described.
ViA, in the drawing, represents a portion of the bench or plate to which the clamp is "to be secured.
The clamp consists of one stationary jaw B, which is fixed to the bench, and of a movable jaw, C, swivelled to the end of a horizontal screw, l). This screwis supported in two earsa l), that project from a plate, E, one of said ears having a female-screw thread provided'in it, for' linodneing the longitudinal motion of the screw as the same is turned.
The plate E has a downward-projecting block, c, fitted into the bench, to prevent any horizontal displacement. It is fastened to the bench by screws d d, and
is furthermore held down by a strap, F, which is fitted around the ear a, and with the ends through the bench-nuts e, being arranged on its said ends as shown.
The stationary jaw has a shoulder, g, which rests upon the bench, while its lower part is iittedinto one ot' a number oi'lnort-ises provided in the bench..
A pin, It, is fitted laterally through the bench and through the said lower part of the jaw B. Upon removing 'such pin, the jaw may be taken out and put into another mortise, to adapt vthe apparatus to holding larger or smaller articles.
From the back of the jaw B projects, into the bench,
a brace, t', with inclined outer face, as indicated by dotted lines in fig. 1.
i The mortise in the bench is, therefore, T- shaped, the transverse portion being not as deep as the main longitudinal part.
'lhe brace i will hold the jaw B, and will prevent it from tipping.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Lettersv Patent.- n
An improved screw-stock, for the n'iovable jaw of a clamp, with abase, E E, ears a b, and removable fastening-yoke F, the said parts being constructed, coinbined, and adjusted to the bench, in the manner described.
' O. L. FENNER.
