Description

J. WHITE. APPARATUS FORHOLDIHG HAT BLOCKS.
Patented Aug. 10, 1869.
yen 7 W new gtttttfi fistent emit.
JAMES WHI.'1E,OF CLEVELAND, onto.
Letter; Patent No. 93,571, dated August '10, 1869.
- -O.-Q. -Q
The Schedule referred to in the Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To allwhom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES WHITE, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ble, on which is placed and secured a hat or bonnetblock, whereon the hat or bonnet is pressed in the process of finishing, as hereinafter more fully described.
In fig. 1, A represents a shell or case, provided with a base, B, on which it stands, and is secured to the pressing-bench or table.
In said case is pivoted a standard, 0, at the point a, whcreon it viblates, as and, for a purpose hereinaftcr shown.
or table, D, at the point b, fig. 3, whereby said head may be turned around horizontally, for a purposepresently shown.
Attached to the under side of the head or table, and enclosing the standard, is a deep circular flange, E, also indicated by the dotted which are cut more or less notches 0, into. which the end of the rod F is projected by .a spring, f, and whereby said head or table is retained in any one position that may be required.
G, fig. 3, is a pair of adjustable clamps, secured to the surface of the table by a screw inserted in the lines 0, fig. 3, in
slots h, in which they slide for adjustment, and secured therein by the finger nut 0', fig. 1.
.The practical operation of this apparatus is as follows, viz:
The block on vwhich the hat or bonnet is to be pressed is placed upon the head, between the clamps G, and by them embraced, and thereby held from sliding about. As the work of pressing-. -progresses, the block and hat are adjusted to a convenient position and relation to the pressman by turning the head or table horizontally, which may be done by withdrawing the rod F from the notches 0, thereby allowing the head to be turned around in either direction, as may be desired.
The head can lie-changed from a horizontal position to an oblique one, as indicated by the dotted lines 11, by withdrawing the pin I, whereby the standard is secured in the case, and inserting the same in either of the holes a, as the obliqueness of the head may be required by the operator.
By this adjustable nature of the apparatus, it will be obvious that the block and hat can be turned to any desired position that the convenience of the operator may wish, and that without disturbing the block,
- it being held fast to the head or table by the clamps. To the upper end of the standard is pivoted a head What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The adjustable head or table D, in combination with the notched flange E and rod F, when arranged ?nd operating substantially as and for the purpose set 2. The clamps G, adjustable head or table D, in combination with the notched flange E, rod 11, and standards 0, in the manner substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
Witnesses: JAMES WHITE.
