CARL H. GORDON, OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-NIN'IHS 'I'O WILLIAM M. VAN BUREN, TWO-NINTHS TO JOHN ARENTSEN, AND TWO-NINTHS TO GEORGE BULLOCK, ALL OF MESA COUNTY, COLORADO.
GUN-SIGHT.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL I-I. GoizpoN, citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Junction, Colorado, have invented a new and useful Gun-Sight, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to gun sights, the object being to provide an improved adjustable sighting device, including an adjustable plate supported by the gun barrel and a pointed sight supported by said plate and adjustable thereon, and provided with means for holding the parts in different adjustments.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a gun barrel having a sight attached thereto in which my invention is embodied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the sight plate detached from the gun barrel. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
The sight plate-1 is of spring metal and has clove-tail connection with the gun barrel as shown at 2. This plate, as usual, extends parallel with the gun barrel, and at its outer or forward end has an upturned portion 3. In the present instance there is a hole t through said upturned portion, and a slot 5 cut through the portion above said hole. A plate 6 is dove-tailed into the upturned portion 3 and is movable vertically. Two V-shaped notches 7 in the upper edge of the plate 6 form a central point 8 which coincides or registers with the slot 5. A setscrew or binding device 9 in or in connection with the upturned portion 3 engages with and holds the plate 6 in any of its vertical adjustments.
The slot 5 constitutes a sight space through the upturned portion or shield 3, and the point 8 registering or coinciding with said slot constitutes the sight proper. By raising or lowering the plate 6 the sight point 8 may be adjusted for fine or coarse sight, as may be desired or the circumstances may require. The usual adjustment piece 10 may be used in connection with a sight of this construction as well as with those in ordinary use.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a gun sight, an upwardly extending portion having a slot therein, a plate supported by said upwardly extending portion, and a point on said plate registering or coingidling with said slot, substantially as speci- 2. In a gun sight, an upwardly extending portion having a slot at its upper edge, a plate supported by said upwardly extending portion, and a point on said plate registering or coinciding with said slot below the upper edge of said upwardly extending portion, substantially as specified.
3. In a gun sight, the combination with a spring plate attached to the gun barrel and provided with an upturned portion having a slot therein, of a plate connected to said upturned portion having a point registering with said slot, and means for holding said plate in different adjustments on said upturned portion, substantially as specified.
4:. In a gun sight, the combination with. a spring plate having an upturned portion in. which there is a hole and a slot leading from said hole to the upper edge, of a sight plate inovably connected to said upturned portion and provided with a point registering or coinciding with said slot, and means for binding said movable plate in different adjustments on said upturned portion, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto affix my signature to this specification this 31st day of March, 1909, in the presence of two witnesses.
