Be it known thatI, FREDERICK H. SPRAGUE,

a citizen of the' 'United States, residing at Orange, countyjof Franklin, and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Qh ildrens Garments, of which the following descixiption, in connection with the accompanyin drawing, is a specification, like letters on the rawing representing like parts.

This invention relates to one-piece childrens garments such as are commonly known as play-suits. Theseygarments comprise a waist portion and, a trousers or pants portion which are sewed together so that the garment is a one-piece ar'ment.

' It has heretofore een proposed to improve the looks of these garments by producing a blouse effect in the waist, and one of the ways in which this blouse effect has been produced has been by the useof straps or bands which are fastened to the waist at the shoulder thereof and which extend down to the waist-band both at the front and the rear, said straps being of the proper length to take the weight of the trousers so that the material of the waist will blouse more 'or less.

The waist portion of the garment is designated by 2 and the trousers portion by 3. These two portions are sewed together at the front, as at 4, and the waist is arranged to open in the back as usual in this class of gar- :ments. The trousers portion is also provided at its rear with a flap 5 which is provided with buttonholes to be buttoned to the back side of the waist ortion. The construction thus far describe is such as is commonly found in garments of this class. a

T In order to produce the desired blouse cf- 56 feet to the waist, I employ a lining 6, the upper end of which is secured to the neck of the waist along the line 7, and the lower end of which is secured to the waist band of the waist, as at 8. Preferably also the lining is sewed to the waist along the shoulder sea-m by a line of stitching l), which line of stitching may be the stitches of the shoulder seam itself, and said lining may also be sewed to the waist around each arm scye, as at 10. The lining, however, is disconnected from the waist at other portions thereof.

The lining is made somewhat shorter than fullness or blouse effect in the waist, as shown at 11 in Fig. 2, and if desired this effect may be augmented by gathering the front of the waist, as at 12, when it is sewed to the trousers. The amount that the waist 11-is bloused or the fullness thereof will de pend upon the relative lengths of the lining and the waist, and by making the waist conblouse effect can be produced.

The lining may be secured to the waist by the lines of stitching 16 which secure the waist to the trousers, or by separate lines of stitching and preferably suitable tabs 17 will be inserted between the lining and the waist and sewed thereto, said tabs constituting a means for attaching hose supporters.

Garments of this class are most commonly used as summer garments, and it is therefore desirable that they should be comparatively thin. If a thin lining is employed the strain thereon is apt to tear it, and in order to give the lining su'llicient strength to maintain the blouse effect without making it unduly thick I have provided a sys em of reinforcing the lining at various points where it is subjected to strain.

As illustrated in the drawings the lining is reinforced at the center, in front, at each side from the arm-scye down to the waist and at the back.

At the center of the garment in the front thereof I emplo a reinforcing piece or band 13 which exten s from the neck to the waist-- band'thereof. At each side I employ other reinforcing bands 14 which extend from the arm-solve to the waist-band, and at the back I emp oy still other reinforcing bands 15, one at either edge of the lining, which reinforcing pieces 15 also extend from the collar to the waistband. These reinforcing bands are preferably stitched to the lining throughthe material of the waist so as to produce a siderably longer than the lining a greater,

A-" garment comprising a connected waist portion and trousers portion, the waist portion opening in the back, a lining connected to, the waist portion at the neck thereof and at the Waist band, said lining being shorter than the material of the waist, whereby a blouse effect is produced, and reinforcing bands stitched to the lining, one

band extending from the neck thereof to the waist band in front and others extending;

connected to the waist portion both'at the neck thereof and at the waist-band andalong the shoulder seams, said lining being shorter than the material of the Waist, whereby a blouse effect is produced, said. lining being each arm-scye to the waist-band and at each. edge thereof at the back, and tabs 17 secured to the waist-band inside of the trousers for the attachment of hose supporters.
