1 Claim.

This invention relates to a garment and more especially to that type of garment known as overalls.

It is an object of this invention to provide in an overall construction, a re-enforced and new type of back having great strength, ease of wear, long life and other new and improved features.

Heretofore, it has been customary to form the suspender portion o-f overalls from the same piece of fabric as the leg portion but by crossing the pieces of fabric so that the right leg is extended to form the left suspender and the left leg is crossed over to form the right suspender. These overlapping portions are stitched together thus causing an overlapping of the fabric and results in a piurality of seams, and as overall material is very heavy, it forms welts and ridges which are uncomfortable to the back of the wearer.

1t is a further object of this invention to provide an overall in which the suspenders are formed of the same piece of material as the leg without crossing the Suspenders, in other words, the right leg is extended to form the right suspender and the left leg is extended to form the left suspender and a suitable re-enforcing and supporting patch is sewed onto the exterior of the two leg and suspender portions to not only re-enforce the seam joining the leg and suspender portions together, but also to form a support for that portion of the back over which it is disposed.

Some of the objects of the invention having been stated, other objects will appear as the description proceeds when taken in connection with the aol companying drawing, in Which:-

Figure 2 is an enlarged rear elevation of the upper portion of Figure 1, omitting the gure of the man and showing the re-enforcing patch partially ripped therefrom to better disclose the nature of the invention;

Figure 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional View taken along the line 3 3 in Figure l.

Referring more specifically to the drawing, the numerals it and I I indicate the two leg portions of the garment which are joined together in the usual manner by seam I2. The piece of fabric out of which the leg portion il is made is extended upwardly and has suspender iid integral therewith. The portion out of which the leg It of the overall is made, is extended upwardly and has the suspender Illa integral therewith. After the two legs and suspender portions are secured to each other by the usual seam I2, a re-enforcing portion I3, shown as being diamond-shaped, is stitched on the exterior of the portions lila. and IIa which not only re-enforces the seam I2 and prevents tearing or ripping at the point A, but also forms a support for that portion of the back covered by the portion I3.

Secured to the portions Illa and I la are the elastic members I4 and I5 which are inserted into the portions Illa and I Ia as at I8 and 2| and suitable stitching is employed for stitching the portions I and I5 to the portions I lia and Ila as shown in Figure 2. Portion i4 has a hook Il for 15 engaging a suitable button on the bib of the overall, not shown, and the portion I4 is doubled upon itself and has a buckle I6 on the end thereof which permits adjustment of the overall length of the portion I d. The portion I5 has a hook 20 20 thereon similar to hook I'l and serving the same purpose and also has a buckle i9 secured on the end thereof for adjustment of the overall length of portion I4.

It is thus seen that we have provided a garment which is strong, durable, easy to wear, made of a minimum amount of material, providing a re-enforced back free from objectionable overlaps and unnecessary doubling of the material and other features which are apparent from the drawmg.

In the drawing and specification there has been set forth a preferred embodiment of the inven tion, and although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only, and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being set forth in the ap pended claim.

We claim:

A mans outer garment comprising right and left leg portions, the rear portion of the leg portions extending upwardly to cover the central portion of the back of the wearer and having their outer edges cut away to provide arm space for the wearer, the extensions being joined together and the extension for the right leg passing over' the right shoulder of the wearer and the extension of the left leg passing over the left shoulder of the wearer, the proximate edges of the extensions being joined together by a seam to a point between the shoulders of the wearer, a quadrilateral re-enforcing ilexible member secured to the said extensions, two opposed edges of said re-enforcing member being approximately parallel to the lines of force exerted by one of the extensions passing over one shoulder, and the other two edges of said quadrilateral member being approximately parallel to the lines of force exerted by the other extension passing over the other shoulder, where- 10 by shoulder stresses are absorbed by said re-enforcing member with a minimum amount of coverage of the extensions by said re-enforcing member, the front ends of said extensions having each one end of an elastic section secured thereto, and means on the other end of each elastic section lfor releasably securing the elastic sections to the front of the garment.
