CARTRIDGE. BELT' ooMrauYyon WORCESTER,MASSACHUSETTS, A- CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS. f
y-x a'seaea'ep To all concern: d h v Be it known that I, WALLACE O."S'm.'ss, a citizen of the United States, residing at-West' Boylston, in the county of Worcester and. State-f Massachusetts, have invented certain new and, useful Improvements. in
. Snap-Fasteners, oi which the following is a specification.
I This invention relates to improvements in snap fasteners, and the object is to provide a socket member constructed'and ,arranged so that a'stud member'may' I one member of which. extends'jon oneside of one of be entered 'lrom either side thereof, and a doublelstud,
the partsto beideta chably connectedand the other .tlie pther side of said part whereby secured together with either stud member engagement withthe socket. g "With. the-above object inview, the invention consists in the novel features of'construction hereinafter" any described, particularly pointed'out in the claims, and clearly illustrated by the aecompanying drawing,
'inwh ich,
Figure- 1 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation showing the'double stud; Fig. 2, a sectional view through the so cket-mem'ber, and Fig. 3, a sec -threaded opening extending inwardly from its base to receive ascrew-threaded stem 5 .carried by the'other member. This screw-threaded stem may be readily inserted through the fabric,.and the two stud-members securely united with one disposed on one sideof the .fabric, and the other on theother side thereof,
i' The socket-member, as illustrated in Fig. 2, convsists of a cup-shaped portion or case 6 having an eyelet portion 7 which extends through the fabric 8 of the other part to be detachably connected, the outer edge of said eyelet being turned over a washer 9. The fabric thusextends between the bottom wall of the. casing and said washer. A spring 10 is placed on the bottom wall of said casing and is formed with portions Specification of tea- 15 Patent. projecting into the entrancelopeningto the casing. A. disk 11 over which the outer .edge of the side-wall oithe casing is turned serves to hold the spring in position; This disk is formed with an opening in line with the opening formed, by the eyelet, so that the stud may be entered from either'side of the socket member. The
spring may be'either a single spring, 'or formed of two P In Fig. 3, I have illustrated adifferent form of stud.
- In this constructionQinstead of [uniting the two stud members by means of screw-threads, one of said members 12 is formed. hollow with a base 13 having a circumferential shoulder 14, while the other stud member 15 is formed with an eyelet portion 16 which is inserted through the fabric and its edge spread over said shoulder 14 by means of a piece of pointed wire 17 which is placed in the hollow stud-member 12 and serves as a spreading device for automatically effectingthe-turning of the edge of the eyelet over the shoulder.
From the above description, it will be seen that I have provided a snap-fastener in which the stud member may be entered from either side wherebythe two parts to be detachably connected may be thus connected with either. part on either side of the other Having thus fully described my invention,.what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is;- t V 1. A snap fastener comprising a socket member having a spring retaining member, and formed with entrance openings on both sides thereof to receive a stud, and a double stud comprising two stud-members.
2. A snap fastener comprising a socket member, provided with a spring retaining member and an entrance opening on each side thereof, and a double stud'c'omprising. two stud members disposed on oppositesides of the part carrying the same, one. of said stud members formed with a base having a circuniferentially-extending shoulder and the other member formed with an eyelet portion WALLACE c.
