FASTENING FOR APPAREL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' i l Patented Sept. 24, 1907.
Application filed December 11,1906. Serial No. 347,352.
suitable and will prove of great value, is the removal of the soiled collar and quick and easy application of a clean one in military and the like uniforms.
My fastening device essentially consists of two flexible members, one provided with a beaded edge and the other adapted to receive this bead or swell in tubular parts provided along its edge. These flexible members are preferably of metal but may also be of any other desirablematerial, for instance celluloid.
I am aware that fastening devices already have been disclosed consisting of a prehensile and a beaded member, but the prehensile members in those instances are not flexible enough for practical purposes, and I have succeeded in overcoming this defect by providing transverse slits or recesses in the tubular clasping portion of the prehensile member, thereby rendering this member exceedingly flexible.
One form of the new fastening is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is an elevation, Fig. 2 a section of the prehensile member, Fig. 3 an elevation of the beaded member, Fig. 4 a section thereof, Figs. 5 & 6 represent side elevation and section r' espectively'ofthe two members in engagement, and Fig. 7 is a perspective view showing the beaded member partly introduced in the prehensile member.
The prehensile member consists of a flat portion a and tubular portions b along the edge with transverse slits or recesses c. The other member consists of the flat portion 03 and is provided with a longitudinal bead 6 adapted to be inserted lengthwise into the tubular portion b. The flat portions a & d respectively are provided with holes f or other means, for attaching them to the.cloth or the like parts to be inserted, by sewing or any other suitable manner.
The two parts constituting the fastening, are assembled for use as shown in Fig. 7. The prehensile member a, b is to be secured to the collar opening of the garment in any suitable manner, for instance by being sewed thereto, so as to serve as standing-up stiffening for the other member d, e, constituting the collar proper. But instead of this arrangement, the beaded member may be secured to the garment and the prehensile member constitute the outer collar, the open side of the tu-.
bular portions b then being on the inside.
Both members when used in military or other uniforms, are covered with cloth of the same color, or the tubular portion, when on the outside, may be blue for instance, and the member d, 2, red or of any other color combination, as the requirements may call for.
The described fastening allows of easy and quick exchange of asoiled collar, by simply drawing off of the attached member the other member and slipping in a clean one held in reserve. I
What I claim is:
A fastening, comprising in combination, a flexible member presenting a tubular prehensile portion which is severed into sections by a plurality of transverse slits; and a flexible member having a beaded edge adapted to be clasped by the said prehensile part, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HERMANN FERL.
