UNITED sTATEs PATENT oFFIoE.
WALTER e. IIARDEsTY', or CHICAGO, ILLINoIs.
TROUSERS-PRESS.
N. 859,494 Application filed October 17, 1905.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER C. HARDEsrY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Presses, oi which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in trouserspresses and is specially. designed for the use of gentlemen in taking care of andl pressing trousers.
Another object is to provide a device o f this class of substantial character' and artistic appearance as an article of furniture in addition to performing the functions above referred to.
With these ends in View, the invention consists in the novelconstruction, arrangement and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a perspective view of the improved trousers-press. Fig. 2, is a sectional view of' the same with pivoted panel tilted forward. Fig. 3, is a plan view of the rear portion of the press. Fig. 4, is a sectional view of the back portion of the press, taken ythrough line A, B, of Fig. 3. Fig. 5, is a detailed'view ofthe coat-hanger and its attachments secured to the rear panell of the back of the press. v l
` Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings. A
The improved press is preferably iconstructed of i wood and of substantial character and style ,asI shown,
andis designed to be used in connection with a chair consisting-l of a pair of front legs 1, and a pair of rear legs 2, connected by means of the side boards or panels 3, supporting the seat 4. The rear legs 2, extend upwardly formingstandards 5, between which is mounted a double-paneled or two-part baci( to be now described. The two-party back consists" of a rear panel 6, mounted and interposed between (the standards 5, and having the sides thereof, near its upper end substantially secured to the standards 5, andthe sides 6, thereof free from said panels to form a spring-panel or back 8, to co-operate with a movable front panel 7, hingedlymounted and secured at its lower end to the rear portion of the seat 4, by means of hinges 9. i
Mounted and secured to the sides of the movable front panel 7, near the free end thereof, is a pair of 'rearwardly-extending arms 10, adapted to take into a pair of openings 11, of 'the roar panel 6, when thepanel 7, is in its normal or operative position.
Upon referring to Figs 1, 2, and 4, of the drawings, it Will be seen that the arms 10, are provided with notches 11s adapted to take over and be engaged by` the ends of a pivotally-mountedi spring-arm 12, mount- Specificat'on of Letters Patent.
Renewed May 29,1907. Serial llo. 376,418.
PatentedV July 9, 1907.
ed and secured to the rear panel 6, by means of the pivot-bracket l`3, secured thereto. A coat-hanger 14, is secured to the rear panel 6, by means of a standard 15, secured beneath the pivot-bracket 13, and, in order to prevent the hanger from swinging on the standard 15, the outer end of the stem Vis flattened at its sides and provided with a square head 16, adapted to take within and be engaged by a bracket 17, secured to the front portion of the hanger, and provided with the recess 18, adapted to conform to and take over said head 16.
When it is desired to press the trousers, as for instance, upon retiring, the movable front panel 7, may be brought to assume the position shown in Fig. 2, and the trousers placed therein, the panel 7, may then be returned to about its initialposition as shown in Fig. 4. and trousers stretehedand arranged in proper position and then pressed by swinging'the spring-arm 12, into engagement with the notches 11, ofthe arms l0, whereby the trousers are pressed under the yielding pressure of the spring-arm 12, and spring-panel or back 8, hereinbefore referred to. It will be seen that the' outer edges ofthe notches 11, are inclined to form a.
Wedge-like contact with the free ends of the springarn1'12, and that upon one arm the notch is above and on the other beneath the same.
Having thus described my invention, without having attemptedvto set forth all the forms in which it may be made, I declare that what 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isp 1. A trousers-press, consisting of suitable standards, a two-part panel mounted and interposed between said standards and consisting of a rear spring-.panel having the sides of its upper portion secured to said standards, and a movable front panel hlngedly-secured adjacent to the lower portion of said spring-panel and adapted to cooperate therewith.
2. A trousers-press, consisting'of standards, a two-part panel mounted between said standards and consisting of a spring-panel secured at its top to the standards and having its lower sides free from said standards, a front panel hingedly-secured a-t its lower end adjacent to saidl springpanel, a pair of arms secured to theV free end of said front panel and provided with notches, and a pivotally-mounted spring-arm secured to the rear panel and having its free ends adapted to engage the `notches of said arms whereby said panelsare secured together. l y
3. In a trousers-press, a two-part panel or back mounted between suitable standards and consisting of a rear springpanel secured thereto along the upper portions thereof, a front panel hingedly-mounted adjacent thereto, a pair of arms secured to the free end of said front panel, and a pivotally-mounted spring-arm secured to the rear'panei and adapted to engage said pair of arms whereby said front panel is yleldingly held in its normal position.
4. A trousers press, consisting of standards, a springpanel having the .sides thereof near its upper end secured to said standards, a second cooperating-panel hingedly-mounted at its lower end adjacent to the ,free end of said spring panel, a pair of arms secured to the free end of sad second panel and provided with notches, and a pivotally-mounted spring-arm secured to said rst mentioned panel and having its freeA ends adapted'to engage the notches voi.'l said arms whereby said panels are yieldlngly secured together.
5. In a trousers-press, the combination with a springpanel secured at its upper sides to a pair of standards and having the sides of its free end cut away; of a movable front panel hingediysecured independently of and adjacent to the free end of said spring-panel, a pair of arms secured to the free end'A of said front panel. and a pivotaily-mounted spring-arm secured to the stationary portion of said springlpsnel and adapted to engage said pair of arms whereby said front panel is -yleldingly held in its normalV position.
6. In a trousersl press, s two-part back mounted between suitable standards and consisting of a depending springpanel secured at its upper ends to said standards, a sec-` ond movable panel hingediy secured independent of said spring panel andadapted to co-operate with the same, a
pair pt arms secured to the fre end of said' second panel, and a. pivotallymounted spring-arm secured to the springs panel and adapted to enage said pair of arms.
7. In a trousers press, the combination with upright standards, and a depending spring-panel mounted Aand interposed between said standards; of a movable eo-operating front panel hingedly secured adjacent to and lndependentiv of said spring-panel a pair .of arms secured to thelree end of said front panel, and a pivotaIiy-mountA ed spring-arm secured to the stationary portion of saidl depending springpanel and adapted to engage said pair ot arms where by to secure said panels together,
In testimony whereof vI have ailxed .my signature, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
