UNITED STATES Patented April 5, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES MoGrEE WOOD, OF WASHINGTON COURT-HOUSE, OHIO.
COMBINED TABLE AND DESK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 7 56,761, dated. April 5, 1904:.
Application filed April 2i), 1903. Serial No. 154,845 (No model.) i
To (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES MCG'EE Wool), a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Washington Court-House, in the county of Fayette and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved CombinedTable and Desk,
the table, so that the complete device will cupy comparatively little space.
I will describe a combined table and desk embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of. a combined table and deskvelnbodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof, showing the desk drawn out. Fig. 3 is a sectional view thereof with the desk slid into the table. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 00 w of Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line y 1 of Fig. 3. i
The table comprises a top 1, mounted on end pieces 2 and a back piece 3; These parts 2 3 are connected to a frame having end strips 4:, back strips 5, and a front strip 6. Hinged to the front strip 6 is a door or closure 7 designed to close the front of the table when the desk is slid therein. The desk consists-of a box-like structure 8, arranged to slide underneath the top 1. The desk is provided with an upwardly-swinging cover 9, and at its front end is a tray 10 for pens, pencils, and the like. At its inner end the desk is provided with rollers 11 for engaging with tracks or strips 12, and below the rollers 11 are rollers 13, which engage on the end portions 4; of the frame. The rollers at each end are arranged one above another, and as here shown are mounted on ablock-M, attached to the desk.
Arranged in the front strip 6 of the frame are rollers 15, with which the end walls of the desk engage. By this arrangement of rollers the desk may be readily slid in and out with very little friction.
' Having swinging connection with the front portion of the desk is a supporting-leg 16. As here shown, this leg is hinged to a block '17, mounted to slide in channels formed in the front boards 17 and 18 of the desln The top of the desk may be held in open position by means of a brace consisting of two sections 19 20, one section. being pivoted to the desk proper and the other section hinged to the cover of the desk. The section 20 has an offset 21 for engagingon the edge of the section 19. If desired, a mirror 22 may be attached to the inner side of the desk-top.
' In the operation when the desk is. to be used the closure 7 is to be lowered and the desk drawn out. Then by moving the block 17 to a central position with the leg lowered the said leg will support the front of the desk. Whenthe desk is to be moved into the table, the block 17 may be slid to near one end of the parts 17 and '18 and the leg folded between the said parts. 1
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A table comprising a top, a frame below the top, a swinging door at the front of the table, a desk, rollers carried by the inner end of said desk at the top and bottom, the top rollers being designed to engage with the table-top, while the lower rollers engage with the frame, rollers at the front of the frame with which the desk engages, and a swinging leg for the table;
' 2. A table, comprising a top, aback board, end boards, and a frame on which said boards are supported, a swinging door at the front of the table, a desk, rollers carried by the in ner end of said desk at the top and bottom, l In testimony whereofl have signe'cl my name the top rollers being designed to engage with to this specification in the presence of CW0 subthe table-top, While the lower rollers engage scribing Witnesses.
with the end members of the frame, rollers JAMES MOGEE \VOOl). arranged in the front member'of the frame \Vitnesses: and with which the desk engages, and a swing- L. G. COFFMAN,
