To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALFRED J. JENNINGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Martinez, in the county of Contra Costa and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Canopy i\Iosquito-Bars and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in devices for barring mosquitos and other insects from the occupant of abed, couch, easy chair, or the like, my object being to produce a simple and easily-adjusted device for use in the bed-room, sick-room, or similar place. This object I accomplish by means of an adjustable frame carrying a mosquito baror netting so arranged as to envelop the head iortion of the bed, &c., and a mechanism for easily pulling the same out of position when not in use; also, by such other and further construction as will appear by a perusal of thefollowing specification and claims.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete device. Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of an adjustment mechanism. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side elevation of the adjustment mechanism of the device. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of a pulley.

1 designates a wall of a room, and 2 the picture-molding thereon. Hooked to said molding 2 is a rod 3, provided with an adjustable sleeve i, the desired fixed position of said sleeve being maintained by means of a set-screw 5. At the lower end of said sleeve 4. is a cross-bar 6 and at the upper end a pulley 7 for the purpose as will appear. Hinged to said cross-bar 6 is a rectangular frame 8, to which is secured mosquito bar or netting 9, adapted to envelop the head portion of a bed 10. Secured to the outer end of said frame 8 is a string or rope 11, which extends over the pulley 7 and thence within reach of the occupant of the bed, as shown in the drawings.

In operation the rod 3 and its parts may be hooked to the molding in a position over the bed 10 wherever said bed is in said room. The position of the frame 8 may be adjusted by means of the sleeve 4 and set-screw 5, so that the mosquito bar or netting will envelop the head of the bed sufficiently to bar all mosquitos and other insects from bothering the occupant of said bed. When the occupant desires to arise, he grasps the rope 11 and pulls the frame 8 upward until it falls backward against the rod 3 and thus out of the way. When hedesires to pull it over him again, he just grasps the edge of the bar or netting 9 and pulls it easily into position again.

In practice the bar 6 and pulley 7 may be nailed directly to the wall over the bed, thus doing away with the adjustment mechanism described; but of course the adjustment mechanism renders the device more handy, because it permits the same to be moved to any point in the room where it may be desired to move the bed without marring or injuring the walls of the room.

Thus it will be seen that I have produced a device which shows itself to be an indispensable article in the sick-room or bed-room or similar place, and particularly adaptable to places where large quantities of mosquitos, flies, or other insects abound.

This specification sets forth the present detail of construction of the device. In prac-. tice, however, many small changes in such detail may be resorted to, none of which, however, will form a departure from the spirit of the invention. 7

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
