AMUSEMENT DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 12, 1907.
Application filed November 28, 1906. Serial No 345.516.
' out through an opening.
The invention is specially designed and adapted for attachment to the foot beneath the arch of the same in front of the heel, it being in practice made of normally greater vertical diameter than the height of the heel,
so that when the foot is pressed down or,
rests upon the floor or other surface the bulb will. be compressed and a sound emitted.
The details of construction, arrangement, and attachment of the device are as hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional View of the device. Fig. 2 is a side view showing the same applied to a shoe.
Referring specifically to the drawings, the body of the device is a small rubber bulb A, which is fastened to the shoe by means of an elastic band G, which is attached to the bulb by a metal loop-stud B. The bulb is secured under the shoe in front of the heel, the rubber band G passing over the instep. In this position the device will be practically concealed and can be operated by slight pressure or movement of the foot. It is an indispensable condition that the bulb A shall be of greater normal vertical diameter than the height of the heel of the boot or shoe to which the toy is attached, so that due compression of the bulb is sure to result when the foot is pressed upon the floor or other fiat surface.
The bulb has a small inlet on one side, as at C, and also an outlet or nipple on another side, as at D, and this nipple is provided with a reed E, which will be sounded when air is forced through the nipple.
In use downward pressure of the foot will force the air rapidly through the nipple, producing a sound or screeching noise which may be somewhat startling and amusing to children or others who may not know whence it comes. When the foot is lifted, the bulb expands, drawing in air through the air-hole C. A succession of quick sounds may be produced by vibrating the foot rapidly, or by walking slightly on the toe or the heel compression of the bulb may be avoided, and thus the sound omitted when desired.
I claim- 1. A sounding toy consisting of a collapsible and self-expanding bulb of normally greater vertical diameter than the height of an ordinary shoe-heel and of size to be accommodated between the heel and sole and having therein an opening in which is arranged an air-operated sounding device, and an attaching-band, to fit a shoe and connected to the bulb in such position as to bring the opening therein at the side of the shoe when the bulb is applied thereto.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, the sounding toy hereinbefore described, comprising a collapsible and self-expandingairbulb having an air-inlet and an air-outlet provided with an air-operated sounding device, and means for attaching the bulb to a shoe said inlet and outlet being in the side of the bulb which is adjacent to the side of the shoe when the bulb is in use, as shown and described.
