F is a ratchet-toothed wheel on the disk d. This wheel is preferably arranged next to the end of the roller, and f is a pawl which is pivoted to the bracket and which engages with the said wheel. This pawl is held in engagement with the wheel by a spring f but this spring may be omitted, if desired. Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. CUM- M1NGs,'a citizen of the United States, residing at Plattsburg, in the county of Clin/ton and State of New York, have'invented certain new and-useful Improvements in Window-Screens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to window-screens for use in preventing flies from entering dwelling-houses, and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described 4and jclaimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a front view of the screen applied to a window with. a portion of its casing broken away. Fig. 2 is a section through the screen, taken on the line x x in Fig. l. The remaining figures are drawn to a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a front View, Fig. 4 is a plan view, and Fior. 5 is a rear view, of a portion of the top bar of the screen. A is a portion of a window-frame of any approved construction, and b is the windowe sill.
B is a portion of the lower window-sash, which slides in the window-frame in the usual manner.
C is a roller which is journaled in suitable bearings at the lower part of the windowand close above the window-sill. This roller is a spring-actuated roller of any approved construction,'such as used for window-curtains, and it may be made in one pieceor in extensible sections.

The main portion of the bar is provided with a back piece N, which is rigidly secured to it and which is provided with a slot n at one end. The section H of the bar is provided with a back piece N, which is rigidly Io secured to it and which is provided with a projecting tongue which is slidable in the slot n. The tongue n is arranged at the middle part of the end of the back piece, and it comes over the crack or space between the projections h and h. The back pieces stiffen the bar and enable it to be extended in a satisfactory manner.
The side edges of the screen are slidable in grooved guides P, whichare secured to the 2o brackets E and arranged against the windowframe. S is a casing secured to the said brackets in front of the roller G.
In order to prevent flies from j assing under the roller, the casing is provide with a guide s, and t is a packing-piece which is slidable in the said guide. This packing-piece is preferably arranged at a tangent to the rolled screen and is provided with a beveled edge t', which presses against the wire screen.

In a window-screen, the combination, with a bar-section H having a projection h 6o at its upper edge, of a bar-section H having a projection h at its lower edge which slides under the said projection h, the said projection h and the lower part of the bar-section being of less width than the bar-section H 6 5 and its projection h, and the backs of thesaid parts being arranged flush with each other, a screenesection secured to the lower part of the bar-section H and its projection h, and a screen-section secured to the upper part of 7o the bar-section H and its projection h and overlapping the aforesaid screen-section.

In a window-screen, the combination, with a bar-section H having a projection 7L at its upper edge, of a bar-section H having a projection ,h at its lower edge which slides under the projection h, a bar-section N secured to the back of the bar-section H and having a groove n in the middle part of one end portion, a bar-section N secured to the 8o backA of the bar-section H and having a tongue n which slides in the groove n over the adjacent portions of the said projections 7L and h', a screen-section secured to the lower part of the bar-section H and its projection 8 5 h', and a screen-section secured to the upper part of the bar-section H and its projection 7L and overlapping the aforesaid screen-section.
