VVITT C. KINARD, OF TOWALIGA, GEORGIA.
DOOR-CATCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 794,626, dated July 11, 1905.
I Application filed April 12, 1905. Serial No. 255,208.
To all 1071,0711, it may concern.-
Be it known that LWITT O. KINARD,a citizen of the United States, residing at Towaliga, in the county of Butts, State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Catches; and Ido hereby declare the 7 following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to door-securers, and has for its object to provide a cheap and simple article that may be secured to the floor of a room and which when a door is opened against it will be shifted automatically into position to hold the door and in which the securer may be thrown easily out of active position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction which may be readily adjusted to hold more or less securely its position.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in both views, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the securer in active position. Fig. 2 is-a vertical section taken longitudinally through the securer.
Referring now to the drawings, the present securer comprises a stem 5, from one end of which there projects laterally a head 6, while at the opposite end is a laterally-projecting foot 7 at the same side of the stem as the head. The face of the foot 7 in the direction of the head 6 is beveled, as shown at 8, while the corresponding face of the head is at right angles to the stem. Formed vertically through the base of the stem 5 at right angles to the projection 7 is a perforation 9, in which is rotatably engaged a bearing-post 10, having a flange 11 at its lower end upon which the latch rests and which serves to support the latch above the surface of the floor,
so that the latch may be swung readily. Through the flange and into the floor are passed screws 13, which serve to hold the post against rotation. Upon the upper face of the base of the stem 5 is disposed a washer 14, through which is passed a screw 15, that passes also through the post and into the floor, this screw with the flange serving to hold the stem 5 against upward movement.
The securer is attached to the floor, as illustrated and as above described, in such position that when a door is opened it will strike with its edge portion against the bevel face 8 of the foot 7 and in which continued movement of the door the stem 5 is swung on the post so that the head 6 moves to the opposite side of the door from the foot 7. Further pivotal movement of the securer is prevented by contact of the stem 5 with the edge of the door, andif it is attempted to return the door to its normal position withoutfirstswinging back the securer the door will strike the inner face of the head 6 and by which it will be prevented from further movement.
In practice the parts may be made of metal or of wood or whatever material may be deemed best.
It will be noted that with this construction the screw that passes through the flange holds the post securely against rotation, while the large screw not only serves to hold the stem against upward displacement, but by adjust ing said screw the pressure of the washer against the face of the stem may be varied to hold the stem with more or less friction.
The portion of the securer which contacts with the door is provided with a facing 15 of yieldable material, which prevents marring of the door.
What is-claimed is- A door-securer comprising a stem portion having a laterally projecting head at one end and a laterally-projecting foot at the 0pposite end extending in the same direction with the head, the vertical face of the foot next to the head being beveled and the stern having a vertical perforation therethrough at through the Washer and post and adapted for ad justahle engagement in a support. 10
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
WITT (J. KINARD.
