Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 15, 1909.
Patented Feb. 1, 1910.
Serial No. 483,524.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER DUMoN'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dunellen, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Checks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to door checks, and the object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device for holding a swinging door at any desired angle.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in a combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved door check, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof showing the check in position under a door. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the device in operative position.
Referring to the drawings 1 indicates a rectangular block which is preferably constructed of cast iron, though it will be understood that it may be made of glass, hard rubber, or any other material capable of resisting considerable pressure. The upper surface of the block 1 is inclined at an acute angle with relation to one end and the bottom of the same, and is formed with a longitudinal recess 2 and the resultant side rails 2. The entire bottom of the surface of the block is formed with the downwardly projecting spurs 3 which are adapted to firmly hold the block in position beneath the door.
The front lower edge of the door is adapted to be positioned in the recess 2 the side rails 2 engaging against the opposite sides thereof, the lower edge of the door having frictional engagement with the bottom of the recess. The side rails 2 are connected at one of their ends and with the bottom of the block by a transverse wall which is adapted to limit the movement of the block beneath the lower edge of the door.
.From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a device which is simple in construction, may be manufactured at a minimum cost and is admirably adapted for the purpose in view. It is neat in appearance, forms no obstruction when in use and is extremely durable.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to obtain by United States Letters Patent is:
As a new article of manufacture, a door check, comprising a solid block having a flat inclined upper surface forming an acute angle with relation to one end and the bottom thereof, said block having a. longitudi na-l recess in its upper surface open at one end to receive the front lower edge of a door, the bottom of the recess being inclined, the entire bottom surface of the block being provided with downwardly projecting py ralnidal spurs substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
PETER DUMONT.
