PATENT OFFICE.
ALOYSE H. H. SIEFFERT, OF EVANSVILLE, INDIANA.
`AUTOMATIC WINDKow-FAST'ENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. '71 5,217, dated December 2, 1902.
Application led November 27, 1901. Serial No. 33,949. (N0 IOdeL) To @ZZ when@ 7125 may concern:
Beit known that I, ALoYsE H. H. SIEFFERT, a citizen of the United States, residingY at Evansville, county of Vanderburg, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Window-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularlyY to an im provernent iu a device for attachment to windows, whereby a lock or fastening automatic in character is provided, the object oi which is to provide a Window-lock cheap and simple in construction and automatically operated. This object I attain by the use of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a plan of my device, showing its position when attached to the windowframes and locked. Fig. 2 is also a plan of my device shown as attached to the Windowframes and unlocked.
Fora detailed description reference is again had tothe accompanying drawings, in which A represents a section of the lower frame of the upper window-sash.
A2 represents a section of the upper frame of the lower window-sash.
A represents that portion of4 my lock which is attached to the upper surface of the lower frame of the upper sash, which is constructed somewhat in the form of the ligure 4, provided with a base at its lowerend somewhat shorter than the breadth of the Window-sash, having suitable perforations for insertion of screws, which base is designed to rest upon the upper surface of the window-sash and extends at right angles to the general contour of this portion of my device.
B represents that portion of my device which is connected to a suitable base C at the joint E and reinforced by a spring D, which part B is Vfshaped and ts into the indentation in A between 'its base and the portion thereof directly above said base.
In practice the base of A is suitably attached to the upper surface of the lower frame of the upper Window-sash, preferably near the middle of said sash. The base C is attached to the upper surface of the top frame of the lower window-sash directly in front of the part A, so that the V-shaped part B will fit against and into the indentation hereinbefore described. If the lower sash is raised, the window is locked by pulling it down, by reason of the two parts A and B coming together and connecting in the manner of a ratchet. To unlock the window, the V-shaped part B is pulled outward until A and B are disconnected, and the window can be raised.
My device is made of any light strong metallic substance desired, substantially in the form herein described, and may be ornamented to suit the wish of its maker. The upper end of B may be provided with a knob or other suitable handheld in order to admit of its being taken hold of when in use.
Havingl thus described my invention, what Y I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a sash-lock, the part A provided with a suitable base, the base C, the V-shaped part B, connected to the base C, by suitable joint E, the reinforcing-spring D, in combination Vwith the Window-sash, made and used substantially as herein described and for the purposesv herein specified.
In testimony whereof I hereunto axrmy signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALOYSE H. H. SIEFFERT.
