Description

No. 794,534. PATENTED JULY 11, 1905. F. T. MYERS.
SHEET METAL DAMPER.
APPLICATION FILED r :B.2e.19o-1.
jhl entor:
UNITED STATES Patented July 11, 1905.
FRANK TOZER MYERS, OF DRESDEN, CANADA.
SHEET-METAL DAMPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 794,534, dated July 11, 1905,
Application filed February 29, 190.4. Serial No. 195,741.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK TOZER MYERS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at the town of Dresden, in the county of Kent and Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented Improvements in Sheet- Metal Dampers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in sheet-metal dampers; and the objects of the improvement are, first, to permit the use of a rod, partly round and partly flattened, passing through loops raised by stamping of dam per in its manufacture, upon the extremities of which rod the damper revolves when in use; second, to hold such rod firmly by means of loops (constructed with an arch or rise) and prevent it moving from side to side or in any direction. These objects are attained by the means illustrated in the accompanying draw ings, in which Figure 1 is a front or topview of the damper. Fig. 2 is a front or top view of the rod. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of damper, showing a front or face view of loop. Fig. I is a secti on of the damper, showing the rod positioned therein; and Fig. 5 is a bottom view of damper.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The bottom of loop B is flat. The sides of the loop are at right angles to the bottom and sufliciently high to permit the passage of the flat part of the rod. The top of the loop A is partly flat, with the middle portion arched or raised, so that the round part of the rod may pass therethrough. This rise or arch may be of any shape (preferably with found top) and must fit sufficiently close to rod to prevent the latter moving in any direction.
The rod is of metal and of sufficient length to extend beyond the damper on each side through the stovepipe and form pivots upon which the damper revolves when in use. The rod at its extremities is round. Attached to one extremity is a small handle. The other extremity is pointed. A portion of the rod is flattened to prevent the rod turning in the loops when in use.
. I am aware that prior to my invention sheetmetal dampers have been made with loops through which the rod passes. I therefore do not claim, broadly, the combination of rod and loop, nor the structure of the rod except in combination with the loop; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination a sheet-metal damper-plate comprising a body portion and a series of elevated and depressed portions, one of said depressed portions being situated between two of the elevated portions, the bottom of said depressed portion being flat, said elevated portions being of less width transversely than the width of said depressed portion, used in connection with a rod provided with a laterallyextended flattened portion intermediate its ends, said flattened portion adapted to be held between the body portion of the damper-plate and the bottom of said depressed portion.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK TOZER MYERS.
