FRED F. JENNINGS, OF KANSAS, ILLINOIS.
TUG-LOOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1907.
Application filed May 13 1907. Serial No. 3731438.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED F. JENNINGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas, in the county of Edgar, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tug-Loops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tug loops and has particular reference to a tug loop constructed of sheet metal and including a roller which serves as a guide for the tug as the latter works-back and forth in use, the object being to provide a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts.
The details of the invention will appear in the course of the following description in which reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification,
. like characters of reference designating similar parts throughout the several views, wherein:
Figure 1 is a developed plan view of the blank from which the tug loop comprehended in the present invention is formed. Fig. 2 is a view showing the tug loop in use in connection with ordinary harness. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the tug loop. Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view thereof.
Referring specifically to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates a sheet metal blank formed with a central rectangular opening 2. The blank 1 is bent into such conformation that the material at the sides of said opening affords loops 3. Beyond said opening, the blank 1 is bent along the dotted lines 4 to afford horizontal ofisets 5, the material between the end edges of said opening and the lines 4 being extended in parallelism from the loops 3 as indicated at 6 to afford a narrow neck. Beyond the ol'l'sets 5, the material of the blank 1 is again bent to afford spaced parallel enlarged ears 7, which practically form the body portion of the loop. Between the lower ends of the ears 7 is a suitable transverse pin 8, upon which is mounted a tug roller 9. The loops 3 are formed to loosely surround a pin 10 disposed at a right angle to the pin 8 and affording a pivotal suspension for the tug loop as an entirety. The pin 10 is carried by each of the straps 1 1, which depend from the harness saddle.
The tug, designated by the letter A is passed between the ears 7 and bears against the roller 9, the shoulders 5 preventing play thereof, such as would tend to throw the same off the roller 9 and cause a wedging or binding of the parts. v
The tug loop comprehended in the present invention is designed to reduce wear on the finished part of the harness and the shaft,
' and likewise to eliminate friction.
The device is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and practical and efl'lcient in use.
l/Vhat is claimed is:
A device of the type set forth comprising a sheet metal blank having a central rectangular opening and bent to form the material at each side of said opening as loops, the material at each end of said opening being offset and bent in spaced parallel relation to afford ears, a pin held between said ears," and a roller mounted upon said pin.
In testimony whereof, I it'l'l'lX my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
FRED F. JENNINGS.
