PATENTED APR. 4, 1905.

APPLICATION FILED JULY 14. 1904..
UNITED STATES Patented April 4, 1905.
ELMER F. BURDICK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SIGN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 786,481, dated April 4, 1905.
Application filed ly 14;, 1904. Serial No. 216,502.
To all whom 711; may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER F. BURDICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Signs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to signs, and more particularly means for hanging the same.
Theobject of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive fastener which can be readily attached to the sign Without the usual wooden or other backing thereon and whereby the sign can be readily hung or secured to a post, wall, or other support.
Improved details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the invention will be apparent from the description and claims hereinafter when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of the fastener. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a sign, showing the manner in which it is fastened to a post; and Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof. Fig.
4: is a plan view showing the sign fastened to a Wall.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 and 7, respectively, denote two strips of flexible metal, preferably galvanized iron. The strips attachment to a post, wall, or other support, and the ends of the strips 6 and 7 have holes 12 for bolts 13, whereby they are fastened to the sign, as plainly shown in Fig. 2.
As above stated, the strips 6 and 7 are flexible, which enables them to be fastened to different-shaped signs and also permits the fastener to be readily secured to a flat, angular, or curved surface. In Figs. 2 and 3 the fastener is shown attached to a drum-sign and secured to a post, and in Fig. I a fiat sign is shown secured to a flat surface. The fastener can be readily bent to conform to the shape of the sign and its support, and the usual wooden or other backing on the sign can be dispensed with. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A fastener for signs comprising spaced flexible strips adapted to be secured to the sign; and a connection between the strips having means for attachment to the sign-support.
2. A fastener for signs comprising spaced flexible strips adapted to be secured to the sign; and cross-strips connecting said strips and having means for attachment to the signsupport.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ELMER F. BURDICK.
