Be itv known that I, HENRY K. FLINCHBAUGII,'of Conestoga Centre, in the conntyof Lancast-or,'end State of Pennsylvania, have invented a. new and improved Iron Post for a Wire Fence and I do hereby declare thirt-Y the following is a full und exact description thereof. reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, making a. part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the post perforated for the wire.

The nature of this invention isso very simple in its form a-n'd construction es to require but/little description to enable any one'skilled in the art to make and use the same, being especially designed for a. wire fence, and consists in the use of an iron bar,l A, say, one and a fourth-inch wide, und one fourth inch thick, forged out'below to form a leg, B, with a foot, b. To this is welded or rvetefl another leg, B', withitsl foot b so as to spread jointly at a. like' angle from their junctionito' the vertical .bar A as to embrace, say, about sixty-live degrees. This spreading base will support theposts laterally, while tlrewires will support them in the line of fencing. Thesevposts or barsnrc drilled. at intervals for the wires to be passed through. A slot, a, might be cut in, which would facilitate the insertlon of the wires, but weaken the bar, und be less durable.

Simple as thispost is, I am not aware that such was ever used. I :un aware that wooden posts of various construction are used, but they hold the moisture too long, and speedily causo the wire to rust o' .where it comes in contact. This tendency to rust is greatly lessened, if not wholly prevented, in the use of iron posts, and thedurabilityiand neutness of the entire fence will compensate for the extra. cost in the material, which will retain its comparative -value as old iron after yea-rs of service.
