TQ AIL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
` Be it known that I, SAMUEL P. WILLIAMS, of Sheridan, Chautauqua county, and State of New York, have t invented a certain new and improved Farm-Fence; and I do hereby declare that the following Vis a full, clear, and exact description thereof. reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part'of this specilcation.
The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in farm-fence, built oi' boards, and resting upon foundation-stones set in the ground; and consists, irst','in the application and use of triangular wooded-braces, fitted in between the anchor-rods and fence-boards in a manner to brace against the boards, and hold them securely in place. l
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in the drawings.
A A represent foundation-stones, set firmly into the ground, and projecting slightly above the surface, and upon which the fence is erected. These stones are arranged in pairs, at suitable distances apart to 'support two posts side by side, with the fence-boards between. Thin, fiat stones may bensed for this purpose. B B,
Figure I I, are triangular brace-posts, which are piacedupon the foundation-stones, and supportthe fence-boards vbetween them. A wire, or other metal rod, C, is hooked, at one end, into one of the foundation-stones, and passes up the slanting side of one post, over the top, and down the slantng side of the opposite post, and hooks` into the other stone, suitable holes being drilled into the stones for that purpose. These wrcsare drawn tightly lover the brace-posts, and anchor the brace-posts and boards firmly to the foundation-stones, making a substantial fence. Tie-wires d clasp these rods, passing between the boards, as shown in the drawing- Wooden wedge-s, e, are also driven in at the ends of the boards, in order to bind theml tightly within the brace-posts.
The fence-boards are represented at L. In some eases straight Vsplit ralsinay be used instead of the boards.
What vI claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- i AThe application and use of the triangular brace-posts B B and tie-rod C in the construction of farm-fences,
in the manner substantially as described. i
