DANIEL W. KEEFER, OF LEECHBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
Leners Patent No. 91,344, dated .new 15, 1869.
IMPnovEMnN'r 1N FIELD-Ferron.
The Schedule referred to in these Letten Patent and making part o! the same.
To all whom it ma/y conce/rn:
Be it known that I, DANIEL W. lKunnen, of Leechburg, in the county of Armstrong, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Field-Fences; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear., and exact description my invention, I will describe its nature and construction.
In the accompanying'drawingk Figure l is a perspective view of my improvements in field-fences.
Figure 2, a detail plan of the same.
Letters of reference denote parts.
Each section of fencing is composed of four, or mor horizontal panels A, to which are attached, in any ordinary manner, three or more vert-ical bars, B, in such a `way that two of. the same will be at or near the ends of the saidpanels A. n
An oblong piece,.A, is out from the upper side of the extremities A" of the panels A, and a similar piece, A", is cut from the under side of the other extremity Ad of the same panels, the corners B being hevelled oli' close up to the vertical bars B, the whole being so arranged that a section of fencing, C, of simi lar construction, can be attached to the before-named section by ,passing the extremities of the panels O underneath the extremities Ai of the panels A.
The parels of both .sections will then be in line, the bevels B' bear against the face of the panels A, and the extremities of the panels C bear against the vertical bar B. The whole being thus iuterlocked, is perfectly rigid, side pressure increasing the stability of the structure.
If the fence be placed on a hill-side, I attach a vertical bar, D, at the extremities of the panels C', so that it will bear against the bar B and prevent the withdrawal of the panels.
The advantage arising from the use of my invention is that fences, constructed as described, do not require skilled labor to make and set up the same; and as no iron fastenings are required, save a few nails, great expense is saved.
Having thus described the nature and construction of my invention, p
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A field-fence, when its panels have oblong pieces cut out of their extremities, the corners of the same being bevelled, so as to bear against the faces of corresponding panels, of other sections of fencing, and irrterlocked in such a manner that the extremities of said panels will bear against the vertical bars B, substantially as described and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I aiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses: DANI... W. KEEFER.
