DEVICE FOR FASTENING BELTS.

INVENTOR JIJI. :HzyYar UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
HENRY H. TAYLOR, or BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
DEVICE FOR FASTENING BELTS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 711,798, dated October 21, 1902.
Application filed July 5, 1902. Serial No. 114,448. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY I-I. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Fastening Belts, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain improvements in devices for securing belts, neckties, &c., and has for its object to provide a symmetrical'and simple article of this description in which there shall be no parts that are apt to tear or mar the fabric from which the belt or necktie .is made.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, Figure 1 is a detail elevation of my improved fastener; Fig. 2, an elevation showing myimproved fastener with any suitable belt secured thereto in position for use. Fig. 3 is an eleyation, partly broken away, showing the first step to be performed in securing the belt by means of my improved fastener. Figs. 4 and 5 are views similar to Fig. 3 and showing, respectively, the successive steps to be performed in securing the belt by means of my fastener; and Fig. 6 is an elevation showing the belt finally secured by my improved fastener.
Similar numbers of reference denote like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
Myimproved fastener comprises three links 1 2 3, the links 1 2 being disposed in the same horizontal plane and with a slight space 4 between them, while the link 3 is below the links 1 2 and is secured thereto in any suit able manner.
In utilizing my improvement one end of any ordinary belt 5 is secured to the device in any suitable manner, as shown at Fig. 2, and after this belt has been passed around the waist the free end is inserted through the link 1 from the rear, as shown at Fig. 3, and
then through the link 3 from the front, as shown at Fig. 4, and thence drawn upwardly to a position immediately behind the inner ends of the links 1 2, as shown at Fig. 5, and finally drawn downwardly between the links 1 2 and inserted through the link 3 from the outside, as shown at Fig. 6.
When the belt is in the position shown at Fig. 5, it is readily tightened by holding the link 3 firmly and pulling upon the free end of the belt, and after this is accomplished this free end is finally drawn into the position shown at Fig. 6, thereby securing the belt in a manner similar to the tying of a knot.
It will of course be clear that my improvementis applicable for fastening belts or neckwear, such as some forms of stocks or neckties commonly worn, and I therefore do not desire to be understood as limiting my improvement as'to its utility.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A fastening device for belts, consisting of three links triangularly disposed in the same plane and rigidly secured together, the belt being secured at one end to one of the links at the base of the triangle, the free end of the belt adapted to be secured by being passed from the rear through the other link at the base of the triangle, thence from the front through the remaining link at the apex of the triangle, thence drawn upwardly behind the links, and finally brought forwardly and downwardly and again passed from the front through the link at the apex of the triangle, substantially as set forth.
2. In a device for fastening belts for personal wear, the two links side by side with a slight space between them, a third link secured to the first-named links immediately below their inner. ends and in the same plane therewith, and the belt one end of which is from the front through said bottom link, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY H. TAYLOR.
