CORSET-COVER. a
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO.705,725, dated J'u1y29, 1902. Application filed May 14:, 1902; $erlal No. 107,254. (No model.)
i To all whom it may camera.-
Be it known that I, J OHN M. VAN ORDEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, Essex county, New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset-Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a corset-cover which maybe readily adjusted to the difierent measurements of waist and bust, so that the garment may be accurately fitted either loosely or closely, as may be desired. At the same time garments of one and the same size may be fitted to ladies having dilferent figures, so that a multiplicity of sizes in the manufacture of the goods may be avoided.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front View of my improved corset-cover,
to be interknotted at the center of the bust.
By tightening or slackening the knot the garment may be readily fitted to different. bust measurements. Above each armhole a the shoulder-strap a is divided and tied together by ribbon c, by means of which an adjustment to the length of waist and shoulder may be effected. The lower and inner section B forms a shield in front of the waist and runs out in two rearwardly-e2ztending tapering flaps b, adapted to be tied together by ribbons e at the center of the back. The flaps I? cover the waist, and their connected ends are concealed underneath the outer section A, Fig. 2. By tightening 0r slackening the connection 6 the garment may be fitted to diiferent waist measurements. The front shield of the lower section B is covered partly by the flaps a of the upper section A and projects above and below the same. It is adj ustably and removably connected thereto icy-ribbons d, which secure its upper corners to the upper edges of This fastening permits a ready fitting of the garment to the size of the bust. If desired, one corner of the shield may be permanently connected to the upper section, while the other corner is adapted to be tied thereto.
In use the lower section Bis first secured in position, and then the upper section A is drawn over it and connected thereto by the ribbons d, after which the flaps a are interknotted. In this way a close fitmay be obtained, and the garment may be readily adjusted to the different sizes of bust and waist measurement.
The garment may be either provided with seams or made seamless, as may be desired.
What I claim is- 1. A corset-cover composed of an upper sec- .tion having forwardly-extending flaps that are adapted to be connectedover the bust, and of a lower section havingrearwardly-extending flaps that are adapted to be connected at the back, substantially as specified.
2. A corset-cover composed of an upper section having forwardly-extending flaps adapted to be interknotted over the bust, a lower section having rearwardly-extending flaps, means for adjustablyconnecting said rearwardly-extending flaps at the back, and means for'connecting the upper section with the lower section, substantially as specified.
Signed by me at New York city, New York, this 13th day of May, 1902. I JOHN M. VAN ORDEN.
