digs fitlgrtule rr fimt in in flgescfidtn's 33mm 2111b making gait of tlgr 5mm.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JA.\IES CARLISLE, of Mount Gilead, in the county of Morrow, and State of Ohio, have invented a, new and useful improvement in Adjustable Rails for Buggy-Seats; end I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make-and use the same reierence being had-to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this'speoificetion.
The present invention relates tea. shifting-rail, or, in other words, to the adjustment of the top to the sent, and, in the arrangement and construction of ports embraced in theprese'nt invention. The top rail is adjusted to the seat by its own spring, and there held by the fusteningswith which it is provided. In the accompanying plate of drawings my improvement in udjustab le rails for buggy-seats is illustrated- Figure 1 being a. plan or top view of the seat proper, and
Figure 2 a. cross vertical section of the rail carrying the top.
I Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A. in the drawings represents :1. buggy or other carriage-sent, nround the upper edge B of which is fixed a lnetul hand or ruil, C, to project over such edge upon theoutside ot' the sent. 'This band C is secured by screws or other suitable fastening devices, and ut.the front of the seat is continued down in a. curved or bent shape for forming arms D thereto. E, the rail which is to curry the buggy top, and F the lazy-back thereto. This ra-il, by its books a at the outer end of the side pieces G, is interlocked with the notches b in the bearingher 0 of the seat, and by its notches a over the back edge of the said bur, with its pins d inserted in the eyes e at and along the sides to the seat.
When the rail E is to be adjusted it is first set by its hooks a into the notches I) upon the front of the seat, andby its pins d into. the eyes 2, when, springing the back overthe back edge, its notches there interlocking with the proieoting edge of the bearing-bur, securing the rail firmly and rigidly in place without danger of rattling by the running of the carriage.
I claim as new, and desire to secure'by Letters Patent The bearing-bur C to a buggy or other seat, in combination with the rail E, when both are constructed so that the one will fasten to and ,upon the other, substantially as and for the purpose described.
