Letters Patent No. 86,298, dated Janna/ry 26, 1869.
IMPROVED HORSE-COLLAR FASTENING.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the To whom 'it {ma/y concern Beit known that I, EMMETT B. GOULD, of Liberty, Union county, State 0f Indiana, have invented certain new land useful Improvements in the Fastenings of Horse-Collars; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawings, and the letters of reference thereon, which form a part of this specification, and which accompany the same, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved fastening, and
Figure 2 is avievv of that portion ofthe same, through which the serrated or notched tongue passes, and by which it is held in position.
The object of my invention is to produce a neat, simple, cheap, strong fastening, to be attached to the opening on the top of a horse-collar, and readily adjustable for different sizes of horses.
In the drawings- A, fig. 1, is an ear or bracket, of any convenient form and size, to which is hinged a curved tongue, C, the
upper 'surface of which is provided with notches, or shoulders, a a a.
The ear or bracket B is similar' in fomn to A, and provided with a mortise or opening, c, fig. 2, .the top and bottom of which is so bevelled as to freely admit the tongue G, and retain it Wherever desired, by notch a, resting against the bar e.
The weight of the collar is suicient to keep the tongue firmly against the bar, and to prevent any tendency to work loose.
Having thus fully described my said improvement,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bracket A,'having the hinged tongue C, provided with the square shoulders a, in combination with bracket B, provided with the square bar e, and inclined side 0, as and for the purpose set forth.
