JAR-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK E. RUSSELL, J r. a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in J ar-Holders; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improved fruitjar holder, the object being, as the title of the invention implies, to provide a holder for holding fruit-jars in screwing the top of the jar on and off.

It is well understood that a device of this nature has been found very desirable and necessary, one which shall be at the same time simple and economical, and one which may be readily handled. At the same time it is very desirable to have a holder for this purpose which can be used with different sizes of jars in a convenient manner.

My invention is designed to supply a holder embodying these desirable features; and it consists of the structure hereinafter specified and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the holder applied to a jar in position for operation. Fig. 2 is a view showing parts of the invention in elevation.

I carry out my invention as follows:

My improved holder consists of two clamps A A, each clamp being formed, preferably, of wire bent intermediate its extremities to form two clamping-arms a a, the extremities of the wire outward from said arms being twisted together to form handles, (indicated at A A The two clamps A A are arranged to have a jointed connection, as at A at their extremities opposite the handles. The wires constitutin gthe arms a a I prefer to cover or cushion with a suitable materialas of rubber tubing, for example, (indicated at a a This will enable the operator to get a better purchase on the jar and also will tend to prevent the slipping of the device.

In order that the'device may be used with different-sized jars, I construct one of the clamps opposite the handle with a series of corrugations or loops, as indicated at a a and a, arranged at different distances the one from the other, each of said loops or corrugations adapted to receive an eye (indicated at A on the opposite clamp, said eye being slipped into the opposite clamp before its extremities are twisted together to form the handle, or vice versa. It will be apparent that when the eye A is engaged in the loop a the clamps may be employed on the largestsized jars in common use-as, for example, a two-quart jar. By slipping the eye A into the loop nearest the loop a as the loop a, the holder may be used, for example, with quart jars, while by slipping the eye A into the loop a the device may be used in holding pint jars. Obviously the eye A may be readily slipped into any one of the loops as may be desired for jars of different sizes. I do not limit myself to the number of loops or corrugations with which one of the clamps may be provided.

What I claim as my invention is- 1, In a jar-holder, two clamps in combination, each formed of wire, one ofsaid clamps bent intermediate its ends to form a series of loops or corrugations to adjustably engage the opposite clamp, substantially as set forth.

2. A jar-holder having in combination clamps made of Wire, one of said clamps formed with loops or corrugations, and the other of said clamps formed with an eye to engage the loops or corrugations of the opposite clamp, whereby the holder may be used with different sizes of jars, substantially as set forth.

3. In a j ar-holder, clamps engageable at one of their extremities the one with the other at various points, one of said clamps at one extremity formed with loops or corrugations for the engagement of the adjacent end of the other clamp therewith whereby the holder may be used for different sizes of jars, the opposite extremities of said clamps provided with handles, substantially as set forth.
