JOHN WILDING, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHARLES RAMSEY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CORN ER-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 631,352, dated August 22, 1899.
Application filed May 1, 1899. Serial No. '7l5,127. (N model.)
To all wltmit it Wuty concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN WILDING, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corner' Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompa- IO nying drawings, which form a part of this specification, in Which Figure 1 indicates a side elevation of a portion of the corner of a frame with my improved clamp applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same.
My invention relates to devices adapted to readily and rigidly fasten the ends of horizontal and vertical pieces to form a corner in any character of carpenter-work and is especially adapted to such use in the formation of partitions in theatrical scenery.
The use of my device obviates the necessity of niitering the ends of the pieces forming the frame or partition, and on this account the frame or partition may be quickly and efficiently formed, which is a very desirable matter in the erection of theatrical scenery.
I I will now describe my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, in which like reference characters indicate like parts wherever they occur throughout the several views. 1
5 Referring to the accompanying drawings,
A is the clamp, consisting of the body portion a, one side of said clamp being provided with a flange 1), extending at right angles to the inner face of said body portion and projecting beyond the upper edge of. said body portion to form an extension Z), which is adapted to be turned inwardly substantially parallel to the upper edge of said body portion a, and to be fastened in any suitable man- 5 ner to the upper side of the horizontal portion of the frame or partition B. The edge of said body portion at, opposite said flange b, is provided with an angle-piece 0, one portion of which is parallel with said flange b and with the vertical memberof the partition or frame and the other portionprojecting inwardly and at right angles to the inner edge of the body portion and parallel with the horizon tal member of the partition or frame. The said clamp is provided with a suitable numher of'holes d for the purpose of attaching the same to the pieces forming the corners.
The advantages of my device are that a perfect rigid and strong corner is formed quickly and readily without the necessity of mortis- 6o ing, as heretofore, the angle-piece c forming a rigid support for the ends of the pieces, as shown in the accompanying drawings.
It is obvious that the body portion of the clamp may project beyond the upper edge of the flange, instead of being'provided with the projection, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. A clamp formed of sheet steel or iron, consisting of an oblong body. portion one edge of which is provided with a flange and the opposite edge with an angle-piece, one mem- 7 5 her of which is parallel with the vertical menu'- ber of the frame, and the other with the horizontal member of the frame, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A clamp formed of sheet steel or iron, 8o consisting of an oblong body portion one edge of which is provided with a flange the upper end of'which extends beyond the upper edge of the body portion and adapted to be bent inwardly parallel therewith the opposite edge 8 5 of said body-piece being provided with an angle-piece, one member of which is parallel with the vertical member of the frame, and the other with the horizontal member of the frame, substantially as set forth. 0
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two sub scribing witnesses.
JOHN 'WILDING.
