RUSSELL R'. MCOLELLAN, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 596,904, dated January 4, 1898.
Y Application iilecl May 3, 1897. Serial No. 634,810. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, RUSSELL R. `McCLnL- LAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Curtaiu-Fixtures; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invenn tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to inake and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtain-fixtures.
The object of the invention is to provide a means whereby the curtain-pole and curtain thereon may be raised and lowered when necessaryto remove or replace the curtains, there by overcoming the necessity of mounting a step-ladder or chair.
With the above object in view the invention nally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described in detail.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part ol this specification, and wherein like numerals designate like parts, in which Figure 1 is afront elevation of my improved curtainxture iitted to a window-frame. Fig 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a top elevation. Fig. 1i is a perspective view of the adjustable blocks upon which the brackets are xed.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designates the window-frame upon which the device is attachechand which consists of a-pair of tubular frames 2 and 8, which are rectangular in cross-section and are each provided with an opening in the front portions which extends down within a short distance of the ends of the saine. Formed upon the lower ends. of the said frames are the lugs 4: and 5, by which the said frames are attached to the windowfraines at that end by the screws 6 and 7. Formed upon ornear each of the upper ends of the said frames are a pair of lugs similar to those shown upon Figs. 2 and 3, as S and S', by which they are attached to the upper portion of the window-fran1e by screws. Loosely fitted into the tube 2 is a pair of slide-blocks 9 and 10, which are shown upon a larger scale and in perspective at Fig. 4. Attached to the under side of the said slide-block 9 is the rod 11, which is loosely iitted through the opening within the lower block 10. Another rod l2 is similarly attached to the blocks 9 and 10 and is held secure to the said block lO by the thumb-screw 13. The said rod extends downward and` out through the lower end of the fra-lne and is held thereto by the thumbscrew 12'. Attached to the said slide-blocks by the screws 14 and 15 is the bracket 16, upon which the curtainpole 27 is seated. A similar pair of blocks are fitted into the tube 3 and connected together by a short rod 19 in a manner similar to the pair of blocks for the opposite tube, and the lower block is also provided with a thumb-screw 19, by which the lower block is held to the rod.
To the upper end of the traine 3 is pivotally attached the pulley 2l by the pivot or pin 22, and a similar pulley 225 is pivoted at the top of the frame 2 upon the pin 24, and a similar pulley is pivotedupon thepin 22 within and at the lower end of the said 'fra-ine 2. A chain 26 is then attached to slide-block 17 within the frame 3, passing over the pulley 21, across and overv the pulley 23, down through the frame 2, over the pulley 25, up through the frame, and attached to the lower end of the short rod 11. v
In operating the device to lower mthe pole the small thuinoscrew 12 is turned to release the long rod 12. The said rod is then pulled downward, drawing the slide-blocks ot that traine with it, and the chain at the saine time is slackened and allows the slideblocks within the opposite frame to descend. After lowering to the desired position the thumb-screw l2' is again turned to secure the rod t-o the frame, as before. The curtain may then be IOO the said pairs of slide-blocks together and a rod attached to one of the said pairs of slide- 15 blocks whereby the said blocks may be raised and lowered and a means of securing the said rod to one of the frames, substantially as shown and described. l
In testimony whereof I afx my signature 2o in presence of two Witnesses.
RUSSELL R. MCCLELLAN.
